<p>Forget safari – Bagthorpe Treehouse is bringing the wow-factor to Norfolk and honestly, we&#8217;re not mad about it. A king-sized four-poster, a statement copper bathtub, far-reaching countryside views AND bunks for the kids? Someone&#8217;s been reading our wish list. <p>This adults-only lakeside haven near Framlingham is fast becoming the spot for Suffolk wonder-seekers wanting to switch off properly (and we mean properly – there&#8217;s no WiFi in the lodges, just 10 acres of re-wilded farmland and genuinely dark skies). Thanks to its design-led lodges and waterside setting, at Blyth Rise you can swap your inbox for an iglu-sauna, a fire pit, or a telescope pointed straight at the Milky Way.</p>



<p>There&#8217;s much more to a stay here than just unplugging (although that&#8217;s a very good start). You&#8217;ll hear guests say they came for the quiet, and stayed for the stars – the lakeside lodges, tucked into woodland, are perfectly placed for stargazing once the sun goes down. We recommend booking an in-lodge spa treatment, then heading straight out to the fire pit with marshmallows and wine in hand, while the rest of the world feels very far away.</p>

<p>Fancy something a bit different – say hello to the Bird Hide, a fully insulated, low-roof cabin built for watching the sun go down over the River Stour. Thanks to its direct river views and binocular watching hatches, you can spend the evening spotting birds before the sky shifts into proper stargazing territory.</p>



<p>Bring your own wood for the fire pit (or pay a small fee for theirs) and make s&#8217;mores as the light fades, or hire a kayak for a sunset paddle that brings you straight back to your den for the night. We recommend packing your own sleeping bag and pillow – the floor&#8217;s matted and ready, though there&#8217;s no bedding or electric – and treating it like proper back-to-basics camping, with toilets nearby and showers a short walk away in the camping area. It sleeps up to four comfortably, five if you don&#8217;t mind getting cosy.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-cambridgeshire">CAMBRIDGESHIRE</h2>

<p>Not sure sleeping under canvas is for you? Fenland Retreats near Ely is about to change the game. This collection of shepherd&#8217;s huts and safari lodges sits on family-owned Willow Grange Farm, and this is luxury glamping in the truest sense – proper double beds, a wood burner, electricity, a kitchen area, hot shower and flushing toilet. Camping concerns? Consider them firmly parked.</p>



<p>That said, the great outdoors is right there waiting. Toast marshmallows over the fire pit, cook al fresco, or sink into the outdoor tub with nothing but unspoiled views over the farm&#8217;s fields stretching out in front of you. We recommend taking the slower route on this one – no itinerary, no agenda, just wide open skies and the kind of quiet that Cambridgeshire does very well.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-essex">ESSEX</h2>

<p>If you&#8217;re after a slower pace and your own slice of riverside (private river access included, no sharing), you need to check out Paper Mill Island Lodge. Thanks to its setting right on the water, you can wake up to canal boats drifting past, paddleboard or kayak straight from your doorstep, and bring the dog along for good measure.</p>



<p>There&#8217;s more to a stay here than just the lodge itself (although we&#8217;re not saying no to a double bedroom, ensuite, and private decking over the river). Between June and August there&#8217;s outdoor yoga among the willow trees, plus gong baths, Pilates, and breathwork sessions on offer too. For wonder-filled weekend, we recommend a boat trip with Essex Waterways followed by a toasted sarnie and slice of cake at the Paper Mill Lock Tearooms, watching the world float by at a properly slowed-down pace.</p>

<p>Tucked into one corner of three glorious Essex acres, The Lodge at Thorpe Le Soken makes you wonder why you ever bothered with a hotel. Valley views across open farmland, fresh eggs from the resident rescue hens, and a wood-fired outdoor bath with a glass of wine on the go while supper cooks on the fire pit.</p>



<p>The huts are fully kitted out with everything you need to properly switch off – hot shower, luxe Scandi flushless loo, robes, towels, eco products, even sustainable loo roll (the details matter, people). When you&#8217;re ready to venture out, the jetty and decking are yours to lounge on, and there&#8217;s a wild swimming lake and private sauna overlooking the water for when you&#8217;re feeling brave. We recommend sipping your freshly ground coffee from bed first though, watching the birds while the rest of the world hasn&#8217;t quite woken up yet. </p>
