<p>Co-designed by the UK’s adventurer-in-chief, Bear Grylls, Gone Wild Festival&nbsp;is having its first outing in Norfolk and is delivering four days chock-a-block with outdoor and water-based family fun, with camping over night. Spend the evenings partying to Sam Ryder, Example, Scouting for Girls, Reef, Dick &amp; Dom and The Cuban Brothers, and the days having a right old adventure trying fire walking, spear throwing, ice baths and SUP yoga.</p>

<p>Houghton is fast becoming one of <em>the</em> dance music events in the festival calendar – especially after Kate Middleton made an appearance last year. <a href="https://www.houghtonfestival.co.uk/musicprogramme/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Check out the line-up</a> for this year’s helping of thumping DJ sets and banging electric night sessions in this lush woodland of the jaw-dropping estate. </p>

<p>Talk about uplifting! There’s nothing quite like seeing a host of beautiful balloons flying up, up and away. Even better, how about taking a ride in a basket and floating off into the deep blue yonder yourself (subject to weather conditions, of course)? Expect three days of flights, food, live music, air displays, stunning night glows and circus acts at Old Buckenham&#8217;s annual Balloon Festival. A real treat whether you go for the day or camp out.</p>

<p>Social conscience? Bring it along to <a href="https://wildfields.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wild Fields Festival</a>, <strong>Earlham Park</strong> (<strong>Fri 16 – Sat 17 Aug</strong>). A fresh take on Norwich’s multi-venue Wild Paths festival, this new two-day family fest will see Mercury Music Prize-winning jazz quintet Ezra Collective, producer-come-DJ-come-musician SBTRKT, and the super-soulful Aby Coulibaly take to the stage. Aside from the genre-spanning music, there’s immersive performances, climate debates and workshops on the docket of what will be a fab couple of days.</p>

<p>Cambridge’s amazing <a href="https://www.cambridgelive.org.uk/city-events/out-ordinary-festival-0">Out of the Ordinary Festival</a> is making a return for the second year running over the August Bank holiday weekend (<strong>Sat 24 – 25 Aug</strong>). If you didn’t make it to 2023’s inaugural festival make sure you don’t miss this year when festival performance artists bring fantastical worlds of colour, imagination and humour to Cambridge’s historic streets, entertaining and amazing everyone as they go. It’s completely FREE to attend and you’ll witness amazing spectacles such as aerial theatre, visual comedy shows, music and dance, wellbeing activities and have the chance to gorge yourselves silly at local food vendor stalls. Local dance schools, musicians, artists and performers will also be on Christ’s Pieces over the weekend to showcase their talents.</p>

<p>For amazing world-class artists in an intimate setting, you can’t go wrong with a trip to Newmarket Racecourses’ Newmarket Nights this summer. Not only do you get to enjoy some spectacular evening horse racing on set Fridays throughout the summer, but you can dance the night away to world class musical acts with Becky Hill (Fri 9 Aug) and Deacon Blue (Fri 16 Aug) still to perform. <p>The gardens at <strong>Helmingham Hall</strong> are open this summer with a beautiful new sculpture exhibition – <a href="https://www.helmingham.com/events/david-harber-sculpture-display/"><em>David Harber at Helmingham</em></a>, a curated collection of large-scale pieces in copper, bronze, stone and steel. David is one of the UK’s leading garden sculptors and each nature-inspired sculpture has been carefully selected by the team at David Harber in collaboration with the Tollemache family at Helmingham Hall to reflect and enhance specific areas of the gardens.  Looking particularly stunning, you may leave with visions for your own garden sculpture. On until <strong>Mon 30 Sep</strong>, access included with general admission ticket.</p>

<p>A stately home with cool art credentials, <strong>Houghton Hall </strong>has hosted blockbuster exhibitions by the likes of Anish Kapoor, Richard Long and Damien Hirst in its glorious grounds and historic interiors. This year it’s hosting not one, but two phenomenal exhibits. In a UK first since its initial showcase in Catanzaro, Italy, in 2006, wizard of sculpture <a href="https://www.houghtonhall.com/antony-gormley-and-magdalene-odundo/">Antony Gormley</a>‘s <em>Time Horizon</em> sees 100 life-size, cast-iron bodies installed on the same datum line throughout the 200-acre parkland (<strong>until Thu 31 Oct</strong>). And <strong>until Sun 29 Sep</strong>, ceramic artist, <a href="https://www.houghtonhall.com/antony-gormley-and-magdalene-odundo/">Magdalene Odundo</a>, presents her first solo UK exhibition in five years. Among the pieces is a new commission based on Odundo’s recent residency at Wedgwood – prepare for some serious pottery envy.</p>

For a summer experience a cut above the rest, the <a href="https://www.smokeandfirefestival.com/bbq-festival-east/">Smoke and Fire Festival</a> highlights include the Great British Open Freestyle BBQ Championships, a myriad of award-winning street food traders, international pitmasters and fire cooks set to elevate your BBQ appreciation. There’s also a live music stage with international DJs spinning Afrobeats, old school, US house and 90s-00s R&amp;B. And tons for kids,too!</p>

<p>You’ll want to ease up on the carbs before <a href="https://visit-burystedmunds.co.uk/events/bury-st-edmunds-food-and-drink-festival-2024">Bury St Edmunds’ Food &amp; Drink festival</a>, a FREE two-day gastro extravaganza from <strong>Sat 25 – Sun 26 Aug</strong> to ensure you have enough room to sample all the food and drink on offer. There’s lots to see and eat, with more than 100 stalls, a farmer’s market and demos from celeb chefs in the Cookery Theatre. It’s really family-friendly day out too, with attractions including Fairground Rides, Big Games, face painting, virtual reality and street entertainment across both days.</p>
