Views don&#8217;t get much cuter than this! A new seaside café in Winterton is a cosy place to spot Norfolk&#8217;s grey seal pups in their natural habitat. After oohing and aahing, warm up with a chilli dog or posh fish finger roll (bring it on!) in the cafe&#8217;s log cabin. <a href="https://www.facebook.com/sealviewwinterton" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Seal View</a> café replaces <a href="https://www.norfolksedge.co.uk/private-dining">The Edge&#8217;</a>s retro catering caravans (FYI they still offer private catering).



From seal spotting to star spotting &#8211; and another enticing sea view! Happy Valley star James Norton revealed on the first Graham Norton Show of 2023 that he spent a week at the Norfolk coast over the new year, where he took an “exhilarating” swim every day. It’s enough to convert this fair-weather sea swimmer, but only if I get one of those snuggly oversized changing robes.

Cocktail hour? If it doesn&#8217;t have an insta photo op, we&#8217;re not coming in! <a href="https://tipsyteapot.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tipsy Teapot Bar</a> in King&#8217;s Lynn has had a little glow-up for 2023, adding a birdcage booth (above) for dining or drinks. And if that isn&#8217;t enough to get us flocking in their direction, upstairs in the glitzy Party Bar there&#8217;s a flower wall, rope swing benches, flamingoes and crochet parasols. Can&#8217;t wait to visit!

Norwich&#8217;s newest bar, <a href="https://www.upperkingsthouse.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Upper King St House</a>, is calling you. Or over at <a href="https://www.parkfarm-hotel.co.uk">Park Farm Hotel</a> in Hethersett, the new Drawing Room (above), flaunting a sophisticated Georgian vibe, will add some cheer with afternoon tea by day and cocktails by night.



Thought industrial estates were only good for parking practice and MOTs? Think again! <a href="https://woodsinteriors.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Woods Interiors</a> on Roundtree Close in Norwich has expanded the café in their home interiors shop and added a full-time chef. It&#8217;s a popular haunt with dog walkers finishing their romp around Mousehold Heath with a hearty cooked breakfast, sausage roll or cake. And with textiles and furnishings at hand, you can plan your next interiors project while you tuck in.

Muddy favourite The <a href="https://www.thegangway.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gangway</a> (with cafés-cum-bars in Sheringham and Cromer) has opened two shiny new outposts in a matter of months. First up, the <a href="https://www.thequarterdeck.uk">Quarter Deck</a> bottle shop and restaurant, in Sheringham, offers brunch, lunch and small plates with an emphasis on locally sourced produce, alongside fine and natural wine, craft beer and spirits to stock up your supplies. And newest addition, <a href="https://www.thegangway.co.uk/theporthole">The Porthole</a> in Mundesley, is a cosy nook serving delectable Gangway Bakes and Coffee, with an evening venture opening soon. Norfolk interiors Queen, <a href="https://birdiefortescue.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Birdie Fortescue</a> has opened a new shop in Feathers Yard, Holt, where you can browse and buy her globally inspired homeware designed in Norfolk, and seek advice on styling and colours. Meanwhile in Norwich, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/studio53_workshop/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Studio53</a> has joined <a href="https://www.facebook.com/theworkshopnorwich/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Workshop</a> on Earlham Road offering mid-Century furniture finds, alongside the existing furniture renovation business (coffee and cakes available here too). Just down the road at Earlham House, the new&nbsp;<a href="https://www.handstandnorwich.com">Handstand</a> gift shop and studio sells covetable pieces by owner and printmaker Lottie, as well as other local artists.

Sadly on the fashion front, it&#8217;s goodbye to Norwich&#8217;s The Style Show, Jarrold Sport, Vanilla online and House of Fraser, but it&#8217;s a warm hello to <a href="https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100087679183058" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vintage Apparel</a> on St Giles Street. Sustainable-fashion seekers take heed: this is the new venture from the folk behind London&#8217;s East End Thrift Store, which was a popular Selfridges concession. Retro gems include True Religion denim (above) and North Face puffers, and prices start from a thrifty, post-Christmas friendly £9.99. Sold!
