If you can’t resist a ghost story, gather for a candlelit evening of chilling tales and haunting folk music at the&nbsp;<a href="https://nationalcentreforwriting.org.uk/events/more-ghost-stories-by-candlelight/">National Centre for Writing at Dragon Hall</a>&nbsp;in Norwich&nbsp;on&nbsp;Thu 24 Oct&nbsp;(there’s other chances to catch it at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wellsmaltings.org.uk/events/more-ghost-stories-by-candlelight/">Wells Maltings</a>&nbsp;on Wed 23 Oct and&nbsp;<a href="https://stgeorgestheatre.ticketsolve.com/ticketbooth/shows/873662087">St George’s Theatre</a>&nbsp;on&nbsp;Tue 22 Oct). While you can get in the mood for Halloween early with more terrifying <a href="https://maddermarket.co.uk/event/tales-of-a-norfolk-ghost-hunter-2/">Tales from a Norfolk Ghosthunter</a> at the Maddermarket Theatre (Sat 12 Oct) where the award-winning historian and paranormal investigator, Neil Storey, returns for another dose of hair-raising hauntings from across Norfolk.

Classic horror fest&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kingslynncornexchange.co.uk/cinema/whats-on/event/fear-in-the-fens-2024-sat-26th-only/">Fear in the Fens</a>&nbsp;is making another visit to King’s Lynn Corn Exchange on&nbsp;Sat 26 Oct where you can expect cult films, expert speakers and local short horror films for the festival’s eighth outing. Want more, more, more? On Fri 25 and Sun 27 Oct there will be guided ghosts walks around King&#8217;s Lynn featuring talks on local myth and legend. And back at the National Centre for Writing, authors Michel Faber,&nbsp;Irenosen Okojie and Louisa Young will be discussing sinister stories in <a href="https://nationalcentreforwriting.org.uk/events/of-the-flesh-body-horror-with-michel-faber-irenosen-okojie-louisa-young/">Of the Flesh: Body Horror</a>, (Sat 26 Oct).

Four narratives spanning four centuries covering just about every horror genre &#8211; witchcraft, folklore, superstition, poltergeists, exorcisms &#8211; guaranteed to leave you sleeping with the light on for weeks afterwards. That’s What I Call… Drag!</a> on&nbsp;Sat 19 Oct will transport you to the Upside Down of Stranger Things fame for a spook-tasticly camp Halloween celebration. Fancy dress is strongly encouraged &#8211; there&#8217;s a prize for the best dressed guest and we&#8217;re guessing you&#8217;ll need to go all out.

When it comes to the fear factor, the scary folk at&nbsp;<a href="https://primevil-scare.com/our-haunts/?utm_source=Website&amp;utm_medium=Events&amp;utm_campaign=PrimEvil+Marketing" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">PrimEvil</a>&nbsp;always deliver – the long-running&nbsp;Lenwade&nbsp;fright-fest held at Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure is back this year from&nbsp;Thu 17 Oct – Sat 2 Nov. There are five terrifying haunts, ranging from The Crypt to Mayhem Manor and Circus of Terror – prepare to jump out of your skin!



And, new this year, is the&nbsp;<a href="https://norwichstorywalks.co.uk/services/guided-storytelling-tours/norwich-spooky-story-walk-150425106">Norwich Spooky Story Walk</a>&nbsp;where you’ll be guided round the city’s darkest (and creepiest) corners bumping into a few ghosty apparitions and chilling spirits along the way (from&nbsp;Fri 25 Oct – Sun 3 Nov).

Admittedly the kids would love this one, but save it for a relaxed grown-up treat and nobody has to suffer the horrors of indigestion. Holt institution,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.byfords.org.uk/events/2024/10/byfords-bewitched">Byfords</a>, are upping the ante on their famous teas with a week of spooky concoctions for Halloween including a new cocktail, Witches Elixir, a bewitching blend of tawny orange gin, Cointreau, lemon juice and sugar syrup (available from&nbsp;Fri 25 Oct – Sun 3 Nov).



Similarly, those creative folk at Norwich’s Assembly House have had fun creating this ghoulishly good <a href="https://www.assemblyhousenorwich.co.uk/afternoon-tea/themed" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">House of Horrors afternoon tea</a>, on offer from Sat 19 &#8211; Thu 31 Oct, with bite-sized treats including Witch’s Familiar (a white chocolate toad with blackcurrant filling) and Ghoul-friend (an orange cupcake with orange buttercream haunted by a sugar ghost). There’s children’s, dairy-free, vegan and vegetarian options, too.

And just when we thought al fresco cinema season was over, <a href="https://www.cinemaoutdoor.co.uk/outdoorcinemanorwich">Whitlingham Country Park</a> is bringing us a series of scary flicks – hide under a blanket for witchy tale Hocus Pocus at 4pm and supernatural horror The Lost Boys at 715pm, both on Thu 31 Oct.



If you prefer to stay warm and dry (well, it is October after all!) Sheringham Little Theatre is showing both Beetlejuice movies on the big day. While Norwich Puppet Theatre is screening the quintessential 1981 horror classic, <a href="https://puppettheatre.co.uk/event/nff-presents-an-american-werewolf-in-london/">An American Werewolf in London</a> (Wed 30 Oct).
