Having a thriving gastropub and an organic farm in the family sounds like a recipe for hard work, but it is also a match made in culinary heaven as the dining experience at The Kings Head Inn proves. The hyper-fresh, local and seasonal ingredients are harvested twice a day from Stow Park farm, just 8 miles away, and whipped into tasty, nutritious and creative dishes by the pub’s talented team of chefs.

A meticulous renovation project has taken this South Norfolk 18th-century village pub from dilapidated to dazzling in just over three years, including the introduction of six boutique bedrooms in an extension at the rear of the building. Since opening in May 2023, the pub has made its mark quickly having been awarded two AA Rosettes and a five-star rating for its accommodation.

Sustainability is at the heart of both ventures, from the environmentally conscious pub refurb to eliminating harmful chemicals on the farm. Decorated with organic breathable paint inside and out, The Kings Head Inn has made elegant use of reclaimed materials, with the two beautiful bars crafted from fallen trees at the farm and the wooden tables in the outdoor seating area made using the original floorboards from the upper levels of the pub.

Set over 134 acres in Bungay, the working farm and its cottage garden are a bountiful source of vegetables and herbs grown in organic-certified soil, as well as orchard fruit, honey from seven beehives, eggs from the free-roaming runner ducks, and succulent rare-breed beef, pork and lamb. It goes without saying that the pub is a real foodie haunt, serving up beautifully presented pub classics with a high-end twist, but it also welcomes non-diners.

Just drinking? Do try one of the signature cocktails elevated with fragrant herbs and fruit trimmings. Got an occasion to celebrate? The pub’s private dining space, The Forge lends itself perfectly to intimate gatherings, seating up to 22 guests for private parties and weddings.
