In the pretty village of Langham, just a mile inland from the salt marshes and seals of Blakeney, you’ll find The Harper, a 32 bedroom bijou hotel, restaurant and spa. Located in the former Langham Glass factory, it exudes the kind of relaxed, understated glamour that many hotels aspire to but miss the mark.

Since the summer of 2021, this Muddy Award-winning hotel has provided a welcome injection of modernity to our North Norfolk coastline. The low-key luxe bedrooms with their high-spec bathrooms and four-poster beds are categorised as Big, Bigger and Biggest. Every room has similar amenities to enjoy (Nespresso coffee machines, Negronis in the fridge, sleek LED TVs, vegan products to use, etc), the only difference being the space with which to enjoy it all. There’s also family rooms available, depending on how much of your brood you’ve been coerced into bringing with you.

There’s a few spots throughout The Harper to drink and dine, whether you wish to sip a coffee or cocktail in the cosy Bar, languor over a luxurious lunch in Ivy’s lounge, sample savouries in the central courtyard or sit down properly for dinner in Stanley’s the main restaurant. Whatever your fancy, expect plenty of Norfolk appreciation with the freshest local ingredients and seasonal produce on the menu.

Every overnight guest has access to The Harper’s invigorating spa facilities. Like the rest of the hotel, the spa is a little slice of understated heaven – there’s no flickering candles, incense sticks or pot-bellied Buddhas here. Instead, it’s all Scandi vibes with a simple approach to wellness – lengths in the pool followed by a cleanse in the sauna and steam rooms. For treatments, the offering is modest – less deliberation and more time to zen-out! – and all are performed using products from queen of sustainable skincare, Irene Forte.

There are three ways to stay at The Harper – bed and breakfast; dinner, bed and breakfast; or half board. The latter allows guests to dine at the Harper or – cue excited clapping – two new ventures, just down the road. After extensive refurbs, The Langham Blue Bell and The Morston Anchor, two lovely village pubs just five minutes apart, are now open for business.
