The Gangway, Cromer
Coastal cocktails with a cosmopolitan edge and classy craft beers from this very cool little micro pub in Cromer's East End, a couple of minutes from the sea. Great snacks too!
A couple of minutes from the sea in Cromer’s East End, The Gangway is part of a new wave of local enterprises working together to give this trad seaside town a distinctly new groove. In fact, Stuart from North Sea Coffee actually made the tables and bar. And The Gangway has fab foodie collabs with places like Nash Falafel, Chip Buckets and Grey Seal pizza, bringing a street food vibe to the cocktail party. All for one and one for all – that’s how they roll in Cromer.
East Coast Bars (whose first event was the Holt Festival in 2014) are behind The Gangway. They’re the dudes who keep the booze flowing at some of Norfolk’s coolest weddings (we’re looking at you Voewood) so this was never going to be just another coffee shop.
Instead it’s a funky little micro pub with a stylish curation of local small batch craft beers (from breweries such as Norfolk Brewhouse and Redwell) and spirits, wines, coffees and snacks (including vegan) to match. And, guess what? We are seriously into the cocktails. The list is short (so is life, let’s get the drinks in) and the shaking/stirring is skilled. Plus, you can take your cocktails to the beach. Oh yeah!
Much as everyone loves good old seaside traditions, it’s pretty clear that creative Cromer’s increasingly hungry for something different so it’s no surprise to us The Gangway’s been full of switched on locals and savvy visitors since it opened. And when lockdowns hit, the micro pub pivoted in speedy style and sorted a takeaway beer and cocktail service with local deliveries. Even closed this place is in demand!
When they reopen the micro pub will have grown, expanding into the old launderette next door. Cocktail classes and parties are planned. Cromer, we’re all yours.
