The Bug Parc, Lenwade

A great family day out guaranteed (even if the sight of a spider gives you the heebie-jeebies), The Bug Parc is a must-visit for kids and adults who love insects, learning about nature and conservation and getting up close and personal with all manner of minibeasts.

In a cool, woodland setting in Lenwade, not far from Fakenham and Norwich, you’ll find The Bug Parc, a certified school holiday and weekend boredom buster. What started as a hobby by owner of the Parc, Martin French, has turned into the largest invertebrate zoo in the UK which houses hundreds of tropical beasties. We’re talking millipedes, beetles, spiders, even crabs – basically, if it has more than four legs you are likely to find it at The Bug Parc!

But you don’t have to be a bug fanatic to have fun and make the most of a day here (phew) as there’s soo many cool activities on offer which will delight even the most bug-phobic among you. From watching the colony of leaf-cutting ants in action and seeing nocturnal bugs glow in the dark to witnessing a praying mantis rotate its head a full 180 and counting the legs on a millipede – a nosey around the 15 different indoor bug zones will certainly give you a new appreciation for invertebrates.

And of course what would a day at The Bug Parc be without a handling session (gulp). The super popular – so always book ahead – handling experience allows you to get up close and personal with six or seven tropical invertebrates under the watchful eye of one of the Parcs expert keepers. This can be booked with any visit or incorporated into a birthday party for your kids – talk about a way to earn some serious brownie points right there.

Once you’ve had you’re fill of the butterfly museum and learning about the not-as-cute-as-they-sound kissing bugs, there’s also grey herons to see, ponds to dip as well as an outdoor play area with jumping pillow, covered sand pit and pedal carts – the perfect place to tire out your tribe while you refuel with refreshments from the cute butterfly themed café on site.

For a fun and educational day out, everyone needs to visit The Bug Parc.
