<p>Princesses assemble. Prom season is nudging ever nearer. If you don’t have your dress yet, now’s the time to get your skates on. We’ve spoken to some of Norfolk’s glitziest stores, who all say they adore helping the county’s teens get their glam on.</p>



<p>But first…what are this year’s trends?</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-prom-dresses-are-in-style-in-2023">What prom dresses are in style in 2023?</h3>



<p>Two key looks are dominating this year. First up is the ultra-slinky, silky, satiny gown, often with a thigh split. On the flip side, and probably influenced by the likes of <em>Bridgerton</em>, girls are going for boning and corseting in the bodice, with a full flowing skirt.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">What are the top prom dress colours for 2023?</h3>



<p>Red and emerald green are still holding their own after a stellar year in 2022. No doubt inspired by Netflix’s <em>Wednesday</em>, black is back with more prom-goers than ever opting for this goth-chic look.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">How early should I buy my prom dress?</h3>



<p>If you don’t already have yours for this summer, now’s the time to go shopping. With a lead time of around 12 weeks or more, most stores advise buying or arranging to hire a prom dress in the autumn term. Choices may be more limited in spring, but you can bag a bargain as retailers look to clear stock for the new season ahead.&nbsp;</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Can prom dresses be altered?</h3>



<p>Absolutely. All good retailers offer a tailoring service to ensure your dress fits like a glove. This isn’t usually included in the price tag, so ask in advance.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">What’s the average cost of a prom dress in the UK?</h3>



<p>It all depends on how much you want to spend. We’ve discovered beautiful sale dresses in Norfolk for £50 to £100, but truly unique gowns, made in limited numbers, can cost hundreds of pounds.</p>

<p>The ladies here are pros, and won’t let any prom queen leave with the wrong dress. During appointments they’ll discuss what works for your body shape and personal style &#8211; because, seriously, there are so many choices it can be overwhelming.</p>



<p>Hot to trot this year are two styles which we absolutely love. Bella (in royal blue, black, red or teal) offers a pretty corseted body, flowing satin skirt with side split, and off-shoulder detailing. And Aurora is the epitome of pretty in pink, boasting a lace-up body, and tiered skirt with floral embroidery.</p>

<p>Haut Monde has been trading since 1988, and offers prom dresses for sale or hire (from £85 to £195). If your budget is tight, swing by and check out their discounted selection, with gorgeous gowns waiting to be discovered from £100 upwards.</p>



<p>Open by appointment only, girls receive a personal one-to-one service, with a longer time slot than many other shops, so they can try on as many dresses as they like.</p>



<p>Blue and green seem to be en vogue here in 2023, and they’re proud to offer one of the biggest size ranges in Norfolk, from a UK4 to 36.</p>

<p>It’s hard to believe the owner of award-winning Fairytale Gowns was once a debt collector! That was nearly 20 years ago, and these days she adores surrounding herself with tulle, glitter and sequins.</p>



<p>Prom dresses are sourced directly from a family-run business in Milan, with the aim to be on-trend, but also age appropriate. At the moment they have dresses from £130 up to around £275.</p>



<p>Alongside blush pink, navy and lemon, black prom dresses have been flying off the rails &#8211; yup, it’s the <em>Wednesday</em> effect!</p>



<p>The full <em>Pretty Woman</em> treatment is on offer at Fairytale Gowns, where girls are given the chance to try out jewellery, bags and other accessories to make their outfit really ‘pop’. When they’ve found ‘the one’, it’s time to stand on the podium to pose for Insta (and those proud/tearful mums and dads).</p>

<p>Brides have put their trust in this elegant city centre store for 20 years. But more recently it’s become known as one of the go-to places for prom dresses with a difference.</p>



<p>London-based designer Tiffanys forms a key part of their offering, alongside limited-edition gowns from Ellie Wilde.</p>



<p>The hottest looks for proms in 2023? Satin is massive! And the ‘in’ colour has to be, 100%, forest green. They are also seeing more slinky dresses selling this year, but girls are also going for those big princess dresses. Some are woven with fairy lights in the skirts and others even have feathers.</p>



<p>Around 70% of stock has now sold out at Prima Donna, where the last few appointments are being taken for off-the-peg dresses in sizes up to UK22.</p>

<p>Morilee is a huge name in bridal, and the designer’s collection this year is all about the beading and bodices, with some blousy showy styles available to try on at La Belle Angèle.</p>



<p>At the other end of the spectrum is the more fitted Christian Koehlert &#8211; a favourite of the team here. </p>



<p>As for footwear? They are seeing a lot of Converse trainers being worn for prom. A girl’s got to be comfortable, right?</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><a href="https://www.treasuresthebridalshop.co.uk/">Treasures The Bridal Shop</a>, King’s Lynn</h2>



<p>Treasures has been kitting out brides for nearly three decades. They know their stuff. And they’re always on the lookout for the latest trends,&nbsp;sourced from some of the industry’s most sought-after designers.</p>



<p>In the prom range these include Colette Mon Cheri (lace detailing, corseting, full skirts and pastels), Crystal Breeze (bold colours with plenty of sparkle), and Pia Michi (fluid, chic, finely tailored gowns).</p>



<p>Staff are hot at keeping track of where dresses have gone on the local prom scene, so girls will never rock the same frock as their bestie or frenemy on the dancefloor.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><a href="https://www.thewardrobe.info/">The Wardrobe</a>, Horsford</h2>



<p>Sadly, this is the final season for The Wardrobe’s owner, whose dresses are already better than half price, but will drop to around a third of their retail price over the Easter holidays as clearance begins.</p>



<p>There are around 300 styles to try on at the moment, from £50 to £250, so book now for the biggest choice. In the holidays, the average price for a prom dress will probably be around the £30 to £80 mark. Fittings are by appointment only.</p>
