<p>Ever wondered what mysterious magic is behind an effortlessly stylish home? You know, the kind that looks glossy mag gorgeous yet still manages to be homely and inviting. We persuaded interiors expert Kelly of <a href="https://www.norfolkingaround-creative.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Norfolking Around Creative</a> to let us in on the fail-safe design tricks used by the pros. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">1/ Layering</h2>

<p>Layering is one of my favourite ways to dress a room and is an easy way to add depth and interest to an interior scheme. Choose your main colour and introduce it in different shades, tones, patterns and textures. This is particularly fun in a child&#8217;s bedroom (like this sophisticated little girl’s room, above). Try painting the ceiling with white paint tinted with your chosen hue. Don&#8217;t be afraid to be adventurous with patterns as well; always remember, as long as you pick up the same tonal colours, they will sit well together. Often something you think will clash adds another layered element to the room. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-2-get-savvy-with-samples">2/ Get savvy with samples</h2>

<p>One of the biggest tips I give anyone embarking on an interiors project is to get samples. It may sound like an obvious suggestion, but so many people get caught up in the whirlwind of excitement or overwhelmingness of a project and overlook this simple tip. I promise it will make your design choices easier and make the space feel more cohesive. Place your favourite samples all together (wallpaper, fabric, paint colour, flooring and furniture swatches); this will help you visualise the overall look and texture, and ensure that all the elements complement each other. Samples are usually free and only sometimes advertised, so make sure to ask.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">3/ Organisation is everything</h2>

<p>A well-organised home is a key to keeping your home feeling fresh, sleek and beautiful. Not only will it keep you loving your interior for longer, it is also good for your wellbeing and peace of mind. Whether you are a relaxed homeowner or like every aspect of your home in order, everybody should have some sort of organisational storage in the home. Finding furniture for your home with dual purpose and storage is my tip. Beds with base storage, benches with baskets tucked underneath, and even simple shelving are great places to start. A home that harmonises in form and function is a much more enjoyable place to be.</p>

<p>Adding small seasonal additions to your interiors will help keep your home feeling interesting and on point. Artificial or dried flowers are such an easy way to keep the seasons flowing throughout the year. Introducing different textures to a space through accessories, such as different fabric weaves and colours in the form of cushions and throws, is a very effective, easy way to achieve this. Remember your favourite seasonal scent in the form of candles or diffusers.</p>

<p>When considering the colour you want to decorate your area, remember how important natural light will be to the overall hue you chose. A south-facing room will benefit from the maximum amount of light, whereas a north-facing room will be much darker. This is why the same colour can appear different. It&#8217;s also essential to look at any sample throughout the day; what you love in the morning, you may not love at night. My top tip is don&#8217;t be afraid of dark tones in north-facing rooms; work with your natural light. You can add lighter tones through your flooring and choose window dressings to help brighten a space. If you like white tones, pay attention to the undertones in the white, as these will appear more in different lights, and you could end up clashing unintentionally.</p>

<p>This is one of my favourite ways of adding interest and texture to an interior. The kitchen is a great place to start, such as glass jars filled with everyday ingredients and open shelving to display your plates and bowls. I keep to the same shades but add different heights, shapes, and textures. Your simple wine glasses when grouped or chopping boards layered together with other tonal woods can be quite beautiful and become an area of interest. Make sure to pay attention to your useful everyday objects, especially if you are tight for space; make them work for you.</p>
