<p>For an inviting, autumnal feel, choose a warm colour palette &#8211; think gold, copper, oatmeal and blush &#8211; but don’t be afraid to pack a punch by including bold, dark tones. This season we’re all about indigos and dark browns which set the stage for a dramatic decor.</p>



<p>The good news is you don’t have to make a huge investment to transition your home into autumn. Investing in some well-made curtains in your chosen colours, or even reupholstering your sofa, would ring the changes without a massive overhaul. Add in complementary accessories, such as scatter cushions, a lampshade, planter or vase, and you’ve got yourself a fresh new look.</p>



<p>If your room is small and dark, don’t try to fight it &#8211; embrace the dark side. You can make a real statement with deep, dark colour schemes. Goodbye pokey box room, hello cosy snug.</p>

<p>A simple way to make your home feel cosier this season is to add textiles with texture.&nbsp;Look beyond those light cottons and linens to luxurious materials like velvets, wool and corduroy.</p>



<p>Curtains made from thicker fabrics are both functional and stylish. Buy to last with hardwearing fabrics like a herringbone weave and look for the latest in stain- and water-resistant technology. No need to worry about sticky fingers on your drapes or spilt coffee on your footstool! </p>



<p>We&#8217;re welcoming back metals once again. Go for gold, with glamorous metallic accents in fabrics, wallpaper or accessories. And don&#8217;t forget to introduce a soft throw to wrap yourself in on colder evenings and rugs to keep your feet toasty.</p>

<p>Choose your ‘hero&#8217; fabric for your curtains or blinds &#8211; the one you can’t live without and will love for a decade! Think timeless &#8211; you don’t want to pick something you will easily get bored of. Your curtains should be the star of the show, around which you can base other plainer fabrics and accessories, picking out colours you want to highlight.</p>

<p>Pompoms, tassels, finials, pipping, pelmets, valances… Trims can really &#8216;finish’ a room and give curtains that extra wow factor. They&#8217;re an effective way to pullout an accent colour without going OTT. Add a leading edge to a curtain to pick up a colour in a rug, cushion or even the base of a lampshade. Curtain poles painted in bespoke colours to match a room are also a great option. Do consider small children or dogs in the home and look for trimmings that won’t be pulled or chewed!</p>

<p>When it comes to dressing windows, one of the key considerations is how to make best use of light in the room &#8211; or how to dim it out for the children! If you have a lot of natural light, you might want to opt for one of the most popular curtain headings at the moment: the wave heading, which creates fluid waves of fabric that maximise light. In a darker space, it’s best to go for a blind or curtain that sits on the outside of a window frame so when drawn you are not losing any light.&nbsp;</p>
