<p>As well as laying claim to one of Norwich’s prettiest café gardens, inside The Merchant’s House is brimming with pretty lamps, comfy armchairs, swish cushions, books and (most importantly) proper coffee, making it ideal to hunker down and dish with the girls. With a menu of warming toasties, cakes (we love the sound of the pear, choc chip and yoghurt bake) and even boozy hot drinks, it’s definitely one to have on your radar.</p>

<p>This stylish micro-bakery and coffee shop was born out of a love of bread (it’s a passion we share) and is a must-visit for a long overdue catch-up. Try its award-winning sourdough or dive into a full English, breakfast muffin or pancakes for brunch (there’s also a lunch menu). The crew take coffee seriously so you’re guaranteed a good brew, but there’s also smoothies, juices and cocktails if you’re not a caffeine hound.</p>

<p>In the shadow of Binham Priory ruins you’ll find The Parlour, an impressive café and tea room at home in a lovingly restored 17th century barn. Its milk comes from its dairy herd, which you can watch from the huge windows as you sip your latte. It’s been named one of the best places to eat in Norfolk by&nbsp;<em>The Telegraph</em>&nbsp;and was added to the Good Food Guide 2023 (there’s breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea on offer). Leave time to spin by the Little Dairy shop to pick up some raw milk from the vending machine before you head home. </p>

<p>We’re big fans of&nbsp;<strong>The Ber Street Kitchen</strong>&nbsp;and so are you, judging by the results of the&nbsp;<a href="https://norfolk.muddystilettos.co.uk/muddy-awards/meet-your-2024-winners/">Muddy Awards 2024</a>. Ticking all our cosy café boxes – barista-style coffee, some of the city’s best brunches (we’re partial to its hashes) and relaxing decor (think exposed brick, warm lighting and panelled walls). It’s the sort of place you’ll find everyone from mums with babies and groups of pals to solo visitors. Pick your favourite spot and while away the morning chatting.</p>

<p>Its charming red brick garden makes it worth a trip when the sun’s out, but pocket-sized Soul Café is as warm and welcoming as it gets inside. The gang prides itself on its craft coffee, and has an excellent menu to boot, including Insta-worthy home-made cakes, all-day breakfasts, filling sarnies and changing specials.</p>

<p>Nestled in a rustic lodge between Wymondham and Long Stratton, Chestnuts Coffee is so good it scooped the Muddy Awards for Best Café in 2023. Head for the sumptuous sofas or bar stools with meadow views for a hearty bake or saussie roll. Keep a look-out for its pizza nights – using its own pizza oven – and camping events, complete with a pop-up sauna, ice bath and fire pit.</p>

<p>With greenery galore and a floor-to-ceiling glass front, The Yard (in the former site of Loose’s Cook Shop, which had been there for 227 years) can already count itself as one of Norwich’s most Insta-friendly coffee joints. But with leather sofas and cushy chairs to sink into, plants and greenery galore it’s also the stuff of <em>looong</em> overdue catch-up dreams.</p>

<p>Breakfast spot, bistro, restaurant and cocktail lounge – Shambles does it all. But with 16th century low beams, rugs and sofas, it excels at intimate and cosy. Whipping up Mediterranean and Middle Eastern morsels (we’re visiting on a Saturday morning for the shakshuka), you’ll feel chilled out in no time and ready for a proper debrief with the girls.</p>

Grab a table inside or wrap up and head to the covered deck (no frantic dash for cover if it rains!) to choose from teas, specialty coffee, cakes, sausage rolls and scones – all the makings of a relaxing morning. After, poke your head in the homewares shop, or spin by the yoga and pilates studio next door to leave feeling truly zen.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The lovely café at&nbsp;<strong>Cavick House Farm</strong>&nbsp;is a great shout come rain or shine. Its cute sheds and the large threshing barn are the boltholes of winter months and useful when the inevitable British weather takes a rainy turn. Otherwise it’s all about sipping coffee and tucking into one of Annabel’s famous scones over a delicious debrief.</p>

<p>For a classy catch up, the gorgeous walled courtyard café on the lovely <a href="https://www.hovetonhallestate.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hoveton Hall Estate</a> is our go to. The Garden Kitchen and it&#8217;s seasonal dishes and carefully procured wine list can be enjoyed without admission to the estate, however the exposed brick, cool neon lights make for a pretty rest stop after a day spent soaking up Hoveton’s delights, in between cake and a gossip of course.</p>

<p>After a lovely seaside stroll along Waxham or Horsey Beach (or a swim if you’re brave enough) a spot of lunch or a drink at the nearby&nbsp;<strong>Dunes Café</strong>&nbsp;is on the agenda – especially if you like your snacks without a side of sand. Found just next door to the beautiful <a href="https://www.waxhambarnweddings.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Waxham Barn</a> events venue, the gravelled garden terrace with lavender-strewn planters makes for an inviting space to kick back, chat and relax.</p>
