<p>City central and with one of the prettiest café gardens the city has to offer, it&#8217;s the gem on Fye Bridge Street, <strong>The Merchant&#8217;s House</strong>. Always a hive of activity (games nights, language classes, book groups) but come the warmer weather, it&#8217;s all about coffee, or cocktails, in the courtyard. Oozing with medieval charm with its Tudor windows and rustic brickwork, this little sun trap hosts plenty of fun events come summer with live music and pop-up pizza ovens. Until then, sit back and enjoy.  </p>

<p>After a lovely seaside stroll along Waxham or Horsey Beach (or a swim if you&#8217;re brave enough) a spot of lunch or a drink at the nearby <strong>Dunes Café</strong> is on the agenda &#8211; especially if you like your snacks without a side of sand. Found just next door to the beautiful Waxham Barn events venue, the gravelled garden terrace with lavender-strewn planters makes for an inviting space to kick back and relax. </p>

<p>You could quite easily make a day of it at the sprawling White House Farm. Whether you begin by picking your own, exploring the farm, filling your basket at the fantastic farm shop and butchery, painting some pottery or getting a haircut &#8211; seriously it&#8217;s all going on here &#8211; there&#8217;s always time to enjoy a cuppa and a plateful in the gorgeous, and plentiful outside space. </p>

<p>More of a pavement perch than courtyard but I&#8217;m never not up for a <strong>Byfords </strong>pitstop after a mooch around Holt, especially if afternoon tea is on the agenda. The coveted outdoor seats are in prime people-watching position which is the perfect accompaniment to your morning coffee, brunch, finger sarnies and jam-smothered scones or pre-dinner cocktail. </p>

<p>With its colourful tables and chairs, creeping foliage and pergola, this walled courtyard is like stepping into a little slice of the Mediterranean &#8211; when the temp hits 30 plus anyway. Found out the back of cute indie <strong>Soul Café</strong>, it&#8217;s a must for cracking coffee (hello Butterworth &amp; Son), a simple but hearty menu with plenty of local flavour and, on Friday nights, drinks and tapas-style nibbles. </p>

<p>We&#8217;re big fans of <strong>The Ber Street Kitchen</strong> and so are you, judging by the results of the <a href="https://norfolk.muddystilettos.co.uk/muddy-awards/meet-your-2024-winners/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Muddy Awards 2024</a>. But did you know about its rear courtyard garden? It&#8217;s a little urban spot for a barista-style coffee and a breakfast hash, or a leisurely lunch. Pst. You can BYO booze too!</p>

<p>If the <strong>Garden Kitchen</strong> says it&#8217;s warm enough to sit outside then it must be true! The gorgeous walled courtyard café on the lovely <strong>Hoveton Hall Estate </strong>has just reopened for another season of alfresco wining and dining after hibernating all winter. The classic courtyard space with its seasonal dishes and carefully procured wine list can be enjoyed without admission to the estate, however it makes for a pretty rest stop after a day spent soaking up Hoveton&#8217;s delights. </p>

<p>The lovely café at <strong>Cavick House Farm</strong> is a great shout come rain or shine. Its cute sheds and the large threshing barn are the boltholes of winter months and useful when the inevitable British summer takes a rainy turn. Otherwise it&#8217;s all about sipping an iced coffee and tucking into one of Annabel&#8217;s famous scones in the gorgeous gravelled garden. </p>

<p>With its pretty red bricks and abundant greenery, the <strong>Shambles</strong> courtyard looks like something you&#8217;d find down a side street in Spain and not in the middle of <strong>North Walsham</strong>. Throw in an all day menu of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern delights (and some sunshine) and you&#8217;ve got yourself a little slice of holiday heaven.</p>

<p>After a seaside stroll, <strong>Whelk Coppers</strong> is the best place to lap up some Sheringham sunshine and a sea view. Right on the West Prom, this family run tea room has been fuelling tourists and locals since 1992, serving a failsafe selection of homemade sweet and savoury pastries along with classic brunch and breakfast fare made from fresh, seasonal, local produce. Sweet tooth? Coppers&#8217; cakes are famously good so make sure you save room. </p>
