<p>Over the last few years, Two Magpies has spread its wings from its Suffolk nest and opened four cafés in Norfolk. Everything you taste is delicious in the extreme and worth the wait &#8211; we&#8217;re particularly partial to a Portuguese custard tart (or three). <em>GBBO</em>&#8216;s Paul Hollywood would get repetitive strain injury from the amount of handshakes he’d have to give these talented bakers for their cakes, bakes and breads.</p>

<p>If you’re going gaga for gourmet baked goods, head over to No.Thirty3 where everything, from pain au chocolate to fig and walnut bread, is freshly baked from scratch (long before the crack of dawn) using hyper-local ingredients including Heygates flour. The bakery is under the same business umbrella as nearby top-notch restaurant No.Twenty9. Word of warning: it’s almost impossible to leave without one of their extravagant hot chocolates. Amaretto Hot Chocolate with amaretti biscuit crumb and whipped cream anyone?</p>

<p>Local folks in Heydon and Blakeney can now get their fix of fresh flaky pastry and delicious coffee after city Folks Expresso Bar &amp; Bakery successfully rolled out last year. These two lovely locations join the cocktail and espresso bar at Yalm in Norwich’s Royal Arcade &#8211; a Muddy favourite drop in when the shopping fatigue hits. As well as the assortment of freshly baked sweet and savoury delights on offer, Folks&#8217; Friday night pizzas are incredible too.</p>

<p>It may be tucked away in the suburbs of Norwich, but Dozen bakery is in a sweet spot judging by the snaking queues for its Saturday morning supersized croissants. The slow-fermented bread and other baked goodies are made by hand, using local, seasonal produce. Meet our latest addiction: the galette (above) &#8211; slightly sweet, flaky, and buttery dough wrapped around savoury or sweet seasonal fillings. There&#8217;s porridge bread too &#8211; so much quicker to slice and go. Chop. Chop.</p>

<p>Vegan bakes you’re after? This 100% plant-based, small-batch sourdough bakery is run by a couple, Clare and Oliver, who use locally-grown, organic and heritage grains&nbsp;for their delicious bakes, plus oat milk in their single-origin coffee. Roll up at this Muddy Awards 2023 winner for sourdough, focaccia, cinnamon buns and cookies.</p>

<p>Opened in 2021 by a teen with a dream to create an Instagramable cakery, Bakeaholics has a following teetering close to 30K and has just opened a second outpost in Chantry Place in Norwich. With its pretty flower wall and pink vintage Nissan Figaro parked up outside, the Attleborough OG is a photogenic place to indulge your sweeter side. Make the whole world green (or should that be pink) with envy as you tuck into a M&amp;M-loaded slice with a cookies-and-cream frappe on the side. </p>

Luckily for us, this award-winning bakery is on bit of a roll &#8211; with cafés throughout Norwich and one in Aylsham, plus a takeover at the <a href="http://www.cathedral.org.uk/visit/food-drink" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Refectory Café at Norwich Cathedral</a> and its newest venture in <a href="https://thedialhouse.org.uk/bread-source-at-the-dial-house/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Dial House</a> in Reepham. Each one sells freshly baked artisan bread, gourmet sandwiches, savouries, cakes, cronuts and trademark pâtisserie &#8211; all nasties free and made using high quality ingredients. <p>Could there be a more perfect location for a bakery than an historical windmill? This is one of the few working mills left in Britain. The bakery still uses the original baking room to make fresh bread, scones and pastries. Climb to the top of the mill, learn to bake your own bread or just enjoy a cuppa and a cake in the adjoining tearoom. They sell their own flour too.</p>

<p>If <em>Legally Blonde</em>’s Elle Woods were to&nbsp;open a cakerie this would be it. From its pretty-in-pink premise, Winibees offers cakes, bakes and shakes dreamed up by owner Megan, who cut her teeth at London’s iconic Hummingbird Bakery. With name mashing worthy of a celebrity power couple, Winibees is an amalgamation of her children’s names, Barnaby and Winnie. This seaside gem is a little takeaway parlour with a big menu, including whoopie pies (above), cheesecake cups and sprinkle cakes. If you can’t get to Sheringham, there’s always the UK-wide postal order service.</p>
