<p>Sound the foodie klaxon for this month&#8217;s unveiling of the new-look <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.jarrold.co.uk/guides-and-articles/food/food-take-a-look-at-our-new-foodhall" target="_blank">Jarrold Food Hall</a>, introducing a walk-in cheese room and a second wine bar (we agree, one is never enough!). Brimming with a scrummy selection of goodies from Norfolk and beyond, it&#8217;s a go-to for artisanal staples and luxe treats that are frankly too good-looking to be shut in kitchen cupboards. We especially love drooling over the delectable deli dishes from Benedicts&#8217; chef patron Richard Bainbridge, browsing the novel Chocolate Library, and exploring the endless shelves of fancy tipples (note to self: need a stylish bar cart).</p>

<p>We&#8217;re trying to be patient while this new addition to Norwich&#8217;s foodie landscape is gradually taking shape. Based in the former Jamie&#8217;s Italian in the Royal Arcade, the two-storey, £2 million <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.yalm.co.uk" target="_blank">Yalm Foodhall</a> is due to open early November. More of a trendy indoor food court than a traditional food hall, Yalm will host six kitchens and three bars within the stunning art-nouveau setting. Keep a close watch on <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.instagram.com/letsyalm/" target="_blank">Yalm&#8217;s socials</a> for exciting vendor announcements. So far they&#8217;ve welcomed Thornham-based Eric&#8217;s Pizza, Baha (tacos and frozen margaritas), NXXDS Noodle Bar (ramen and dumplings) and Toast (all day brunch). Order from multiple vendors via the app for table service.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.fireizakaya.com" target="_blank">Fire Izakaya</a></h2>

<p>Proving that Japanese food is about more than sushi and conveyor belts, <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.fireizakaya.com" target="_blank">Fire Izakaya</a> is another hot new opening &#8211; not least because many of its dishes are cooked over coals. Similar to a British pub, Izakayas are informal Japanese bars that serve snacks and drinks &#8211; no doubt a large culinary leap above pork scratchings and pickled eggs. Launched by the couple behind the popular <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.dontxoko.com" target="_blank">Don Txoko</a> on St Benedicts Street, the restaurant on White Lion Street will specialise in Tokyo-inspired small plates of Yakitori and Kushiyaki (meat, seafood and veg skewers for the uninitiated &#8211; I had to Google it!), global whiskies and sake. </p>

<p>Small plates are undoubtedly big at the moment &#8211; and will also be the mainstay of another new restaurant, set to open at the end of October. Anticipation is running high for <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.instagram.com/bostonhousenorwich/" target="_blank">Boston House</a>, a new fine dining restaurant with cocktail bar on Orford Hill. Tuck in your napkin for modern British food served in dainty dishes and a taster menu created by chef/owner Timothy Irven who honed his skills at Michelin restaurants in London. If you&#8217;ve ever feasted on a bao bun at his <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.instagram.com/bun_box_/?hl=en" target="_blank">Bun Box</a> stall on Norwich Market, you&#8217;ll know you are in for a treat. </p>

<p>The architecturally inspiring <a href="http://www.cathedral.org.uk/about/news/detail/2022/08/25/new-refectory-partners-announced">Refectory Café</a> (above) at Norwich Cathedral is an awe-inspiring place for a latte and a cinnamon bun. We&#8217;re beyond excited to share that artisan bakery <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.bread-source.co.uk" target="_blank">Bread Source</a> will be taking over the café in October. Rising to the challenge, they will be serving light lunches, sandwiches (featuring that handmade bread we&#8217;re all so obsessed with) and plenty of pastries. For another bite of the bun (so to speak), they opened a sixth shop on Magdalen Street  just last week. Crumbs, they are doing well!</p>
