The ‘ultimate’ Muddy Guide to what’s on this week!

Orla Kiely: A Life in Pattern, East Gallery NUA, Wed 2nd –  Sat 5th January

I have serious handbag envy! This latest exhibition at East Gallery NUA offers a snapshot into Orla Kiely’s design ethos, and there are one hundred Kiely handbags from across the years on display too.

My First Panto: Jack & The Beansprout, The Garage, Norwich, Wed 3rd – Sat 5th January

Just in case you’re still clinging on to Christmas and haven’t seen a panto yet – this is lovely one for the littlies (plus it’s only an hour long!)

Book tickets: Adults £12.50, child £7.50

The Mechanical Circus, The Forum, Norwich, Wed 2nd – Sun 27th January

It’s the end of the Circus 250 celebrations and The Forum will be hosting an exhibition of mechanical sculptures, physics games and puzzles. This is circus with a physical twist (and we’re not talking acrobats!)

Create Abbey Farmers Market, Creake Abbey, Sat 5th January

On the 1st Saturday of each month Creake Abbey hosts its award winning market.
Recently recognised by The Daily Telegraph as one of “Britain’s 20 finest Farmers’ Markets” it’s well worth a visit. Over 50 local stall holders tempting you with their yummy produce – quite frankly it’s food porn for the middling somethings!

Ken Kiff: The Sequence, The Sainsbury Centre, Norwich, now until Sun 21st April

The Sainsbury Centre is always a great way to spend a few hours and this colourful exhibition might even grab the kids’ interest. Widely considered to be one of the most important artists of his generation, Kiff spent his career exploring issues that fused the complexity of the individual psyche with everyday life. This major exhibition is the first showing of his work in a public gallery for over 25 years.

Plus – explore the brilliant works in the Sculpture Park – Lynn Chadwick’s Steel Beasts are still in situ.

Book tickets £8

Film Club & Geetar at Franks Bar, Norwich, Sun 7th January

A nice chilled way to ease into January. At 5.30 you can watch the 80’s classic Ghost Busters and then enjoy live music from Finn Doherty in the cosy candlelit front room.

Open Mic at the Birdcage, Norwich, Sun 7th January

If you’re feeling the pinch but in desperate need for a night out – this is a cheap couple of hours of entertainment. It can be a bit hit and miss but you might just witness the next Ed Sheeran (he performed there, don’t you know?) Plus you’re in the gorgeous Birdcage with its fab boho vibe and only a stone’s throw from the The Grosvenor Fish Bar and the best chips in Norwich.
