Summer, Summer, Summer time – there are just so many things to do this week!
Seeing It Differently, Norwich Cathedral, until Sun 18th August
This sounds like a brilliant city excursion for the family – climb and slide down a 50ft helter skelter which is inside the beautiful Norwich Cathedral. Part of their Seeing It Differently project, visitors are invited to climb up to to the top and be treated to unique views of the Cathedral and its famous medieval roof bosses before enjoying a helter skelter ride like no other! Plus lots of other activities including a trust trail in the Cloisters and inspiring stories of people who have seen things differently.
Outdoor Cinema – Moana, The Kings Head, Letheringsett, Tues 13th August
The King’s Head are hosting an open air screening of Disney’s Moana, a brilliant family friendly pub and with a screening time of 12pm, you don’t need to keep the little ones up too late. Family screenings include free popcorn, free tickets for toddlers.

Pudding and Prosecco Festival, Open, Norwich, Sat 17th August
YUM – OPEN Norwich are throwing a ‘Pudding and Prosecco’ festival – that’s right up our street. Bringing together the yummiest ingredients from across Norfolk – there’ll be a waffle hut, Prosecco cheesecake pots and Gnaw choc fountain all washed down with a healthy dose of prosecco – we’re sold! Plus they’ll be a variety of vegan desserts so there’s something delicious for everyone!

Crabby, Norwich Theatre Royal, Sat 17th August
Norwich’s Theatre Royal presents Crabby, A snappy little tale of grumpy feelings and what to do about them. Experience the sights, sounds, smells and characters of the Edwardian seaside in this musical, multi-sensory, interactive show. Crabby has been co-produced with a SEN consultant to help children explore tantrums, tempers and frustration – so they can have a great day out but learn a little something too!

If you’re in the city on a Thursday for a little late night shopping, check out the summer programme of street performers and live music from local bands and musicians.
The city comes alive with music and performances at multiple city centre locations: London Street, Westlegate, Gentleman’s Walk, St Gregory’s Green, Riverside and Cathedral grounds.

Summer Sounds of Music, Holkham Estate, Sun 18th & 25th August
What better way to while away a Sunday afternoon than basking in the sunny courtyard of The Lady Elizabeth Wing, enjoying fabulous live music. Grab a drink and a bite to eat from the courtyard café and sit back, relax and let the music do the talking.
Magdalene Odundo: The Journey of Things, Sainsbury Centre, Norwich, Sat 3rd August – Sun 15th December
Magdalene Odundo OBE is one of the world’s most esteemed artists working in the field of ceramics. This major exhibition at The Sainsbury Centre will showcase Transition II, Odundo’s largest work, made up of 1,001 individual suspended glass pieces! This exhibition is only here for a few months, so don’t miss out on – entry is free for Sainsbury Centre Members and for both UEA and NUA Students.

Boogie on the Broads, Wroxham, Wed & Fri Evenings until 30th August
‘Get up and get down’ to your fav disco tunes as you cruise along the broads and watch the sun set. Bar on board, so strap on those sea legs!

Friday Pizza Nights at Fielding Cottage and Heydon Village Green, August
Heydon is one of the last remaining privately owned villages in Britain and a pint and pizza on the green outside The Earle Arms is a fabulous way to spend a Friday evening. Pre order you wood fired pizza from Huskwood Fired Bakery to avoid the wait.
Or, pop along to The Goat Shed at Fielding Cottages, Honingham where the Proper Pizza Company are onsite making fresh pizza every Friday night. I had a quick snoop of their site and found a rather nice cheese making course on Fri 16th August, which might make a fun day out too.
Bug-themed fun, Intu Chapelfield, Norwich, until Fri 27th September
Juggling a trip into the shops and kids this holiday? The intu family club will be offering families free activities every Wednesday and Thursday, from 10am – 4pm. Inspired by nature, wildlife, and in particular – creepy crawlies, there’s a whole programme of great entertainment for children who love discovering more about insects, mini beasts and the great outdoors.
