June joy! All the best local events this month
Sound the klaxon, it's officially summer! From Elton John's farewell tour to jubilee fun, we've got a seriously jam-packed month coming up in Norfolk.
Embrace country life at the Royal Norfolk Show
The Royal Norfolk Show is the largest two-day agricultural show in the country – and it’s a lot more fun than that sounds! Taking place at the Norfolk Showground from 29-30 June, you can expect dazzling RAF parachute displays, showjumping, fairground rides, live music and so much more. The fantastic array of food offerings will include a pop-up version of Norwich’s hip Junkyard Market. Plus, if you have a young child who adores tracors, diggers and the like they will be in seventh heaven!
Watch out for the GoGo Discover art trail
This year’s version of GoGo Discover, an art trail raising money for Break, will feature both T-Rexes and mammoths. From 27 June to 10 September you can have fun spotting the uniquely-painted prehistoric creatures all over the county – and you might just learn something fascinating about Norfolk’s ancient past, too.
Grab a drink at a fab local booze festival
Fancy a superior tipple in a party atmosphere? Check out the Gin & Rum Festival, a massive touring celebration which will be hitting St Andrew’s Hall on 3-4 June. It’s also the place to go to pick up knowledge from expert distillers and mixologists.
If you enjoy a side of circus with your pint (who doesn’t?) then you won’t want to miss the Great Yarmouth Beer and Circus Festival, hosted by Out There Arts on 1-5 June at The Drill House. Enjoy beers and ciders from across the region, plus plenty of circus-themed live entertainment.
“Marvel” at local superhero-themed events
On 18 June the Norfolk Superhero will see plucky souls swimming, kayaking, cycling AND running in a special charity quadrathlon at beautiful Burnham Overy Staithe. If you’re taking part, we salute you, but otherwise it sounds like a cracking spectacle to watch.
Catch a seriously big-name gig
There are some properly amazing artists heading to Norfolk this month – if, of course, you manage to bag tickets! The legendary Elton John will be at Carrow Road on 15 June, kicking off his final ever tour Farewell Yellow Brick Road. We imagine both emotions, and the glitter quota, will be running high.
Up for a big dance and a huge helping of nostalgia? The Kisstory tour will hit Chapelfield Gardens on 18-19 June. Old-skool ravers will also love the Ibiza Orchestra Experience, on 24 June at Earlham Park.
Plus, the likes of Madness, Keane and Texas are all on the lineup at the atmospheric Forest Live gigs in Thetford Forest (just over the border), from 9-12 June.
Try a super special wilderness concert
The Coastal Exploration Company host sailing, foraging, wild swimming and other expeditions on the wild and wonderful North Norfolk coast. On 25-26 June they will host folk singer-songwriter Roo Panes for two exclusive acoustic wilderness gigs on a fleet of boats, taking place in a remote saltmarsh setting with artisan food supplied by Hodson & Co. We have goosebumps just thinking about it!.
Join in with some jolly Jubilee japes!
There are an enormous number of events going on around Norfolk to celebrate Our Lizzie’s astonishing 70 years on the throne, so we’ll just mention a few….
Diss will host Glow In The Park on 2 June, a fab bonanza featuring street food, live music, a lantern procession, beacon lighting and fireworks.
We also love the quirky and nostalgic sound of The Fun of The Country Fair at the beautiful Hoveton Hall Estate on 2-3 June, where there will be crafts, archery, Punch and Judy, a teddy bear hunt and much more.
Old Buckenham Country Park will also be throwing a lakeside jubilee picnic on 4 June, with live music, street food, cream teas and Pimms-in-a-tin. We’re sold!
Plus, the oh-so-cool Burnham Market restaurant-with-rooms No.Twenty9 will be laying on plenty of ways to help you celebrate in style, including showing the trooping of the colour on big screens (while serving HRH’s favourite cocktails) on 2 June.
Have fun at the ultimate small family festival
Don’t miss the Morley Beer Festival and Family Fun Day on 24-25 June. This boutique village festival is an absolute institution, offering incredible local music acts, delicious street food and a whole range of family fun – from a climbing wall to a huge eco-paint fight. Oh, and lots of excellent local beer!
Pick up something special at a stylish makers market
Wave goodbye to boring, mass-produced gifts and head instead to Brew and Friends June Makers Market, a creative and curated market taking place on 19 June at The Halls in Norwich. You can always rely on Brew Norwich for quirky crafts, cool ceramics, yummy baked goods and so much more – we seriously can’t wait to have a browse.
