Superflashy New openings around Norfolk
Wow! There's so much going on in Norfolk we can hardly keep up! Safe to say independent business is thriving and we love a county that's all about collaboration over competition. Here's what's new...
Aylsham – boutique hotel & new cookery school
We promised to let you know when the Ironmongers was open for business…and now it is! Oh my word! Tim and Lynette have breathed new life into this beautiful Elizabethan townhouse with tangible love for its secret stories. You’ll want to jump on the beds in every gorgeous room, each one a stylish tribute to Aylsham’s historic market trades. Book here! Tim’s love of local comes from the heart, so the Ironmongers is a room only hotel with smart self check-in, encouraging guests to get out and use Aylsham’s fab cafés, pubs and restaurants. And the empty shopfront downstairs is earmarked for indie food businesses – watch this space!
And remember rumours of a new Cookery School? It’s all kicking off with Return Of The Punjab on 1 & 2 December. Charlie of Hodson & Co and Tanja, our favourite Independent Fine Wines merchant will be joined by Hardeep Singh Kohil, Glaswegian broadcaster and chef to serve ‘cookery, wine and humour…with a little spice’. Check out his fab foodie podcast Hardeep is Your Love. They’re using a larger space thanks to lovely neighbours Urban Clay, but places will sell out fast so keep your eye on socials for more deliciousness in 2022. Oh, and chef Charlie’s Tables for Two and Four are now booking into Spring 2022. Crikey! You gotta be quick off the mark round here!
Norwich – artisan independents at Jarrold
Norwich department store Jarrold is a Norfolk star, trading as an independent, family business for 250 years. We absolutely love their new Store Folk, championing ‘the individual, the inspiring, the artisan, the eclectic and the innovative across our county’ working to showcase the very best of contemporary country and coastal lifestyle. Brilliant trail-blazing initiative to uplift local indie businesses in Norfolk and nearby.
Fakenham – foodie weekend escape
How much do we love the warm mid-century cottage vibe at Sculthorpe Mill? This beautiful old watermill on the River Wensum rests in the heart of the countryside near Georgian market town Fakenham. Local sisters Siobhan and Caitriona Peyton have worked in London’s iconic Atlantic Bar and Grill, Mash micro-brewery and Peyton and Byrne Café Bakeries (which they still run) and are now showcasing the very best of Norfolk produce in their lovely restaurant. Stylish guest bedrooms all have tranquil views of the gardens and river. Bliss for an autumnal city escape.
Attleborough – it’s hygge time!
Sculpt Interiors in Attleborough is a new family-run indie store packed with fabulous flourishes to style your home for some seriously luxe winter nesting. We love their beautifully edited Collections (Raw, Earth, Wired, Nude, Fairest and Balance) full of gorgeous statement pieces, clean minimalist lines and warm natural textures. Winter is coming and we are HERE for it.
Burnham Market – glamtastic new beauty salon
Ooh we do love a bit of pampering! Purely Polished Beauty Salon, a sanctuary of luxury and calm, has opened right next to sister business and Muddy favourite NoTwenty9 Bar & Restaurant. So we recommend a strict regime of pre-pampering drinks, pampering drinks and post-pampering drinks. Relax, Revive, Repeat. Surrounded by huge glam artworks, stunning accessories and chandeliers, obvs. Nails are by Mii, facial treatments from BeautyLab London and massages using bespoke essential oils hand poured in Norfolk by gorgeous Boudicca – we love Samphire & Sage!
Back to your place! – Gin gin!
And don’t forget to order a bottle or two of totes delectable satin smooth 1837 Gin just launched by Award-winning Wild Knight Distillery in collaboration with chef Charlie Hodson (Blimey, that bloke gets around!). £3 from every bottle goes to support Hospitality Action – tastes good, does good! Cheers!
