Christmas lights turn on!

Mulled wine at the ready - here's our guide to 12 Christmas light switch on events across Norfolk!

The nights are drawing in and what better way to brighten things up than a truckload of fairy lights and our guide to the best Christmas lights switch on across the county!

 

1) Holt, Wed 13th November, 5.00 – 7.00pm

Kicking off the festivities, this pretty Georgian market town will be festooned with thousands of fairy lights. Father Christmas, craft stalls, street food, a pantomine horse race, live entertainment and fireworks.

 

2) Norwich, Thurs 14th November, 5.00 – 8.00pm
The main event is at 7pm, followed by the traditional burst of fireworks from Jarrolds and City Hall’s rooftops. Plus the tunnel of light outside The Forum comes alight too! There’s a whole evening of entertainment – Father Christmas and his sleigh leave Norwich Cathedral at 5.15pm and travel to City Hall via Tombland, Queens Street, Bank Plain, London Street and Gaol Hill. From 6pm live music outside City Hall with Bad Santas, Framtastics and Norwich Theatre Royal Community Choir. Plus, Santa will be in his Undercroft Grotto between 6-8pm (beneath the Memorial Gardens in front of City Hall).
3) Burnham Market, Sat 23 November, 10.00 – 6.00pm

Christmas market, World food stalls, street entertainment, live music, funfair plus DJ Rob Chandler and North Norfolk Radio will be leading the countdown to the lights switch on at 6pm by Norwich City’s Darren Huckerby.

4) Diss, Sat 23rd November, 2.30-6.00pm 

Bressingham red vintage fire engine

Santa has upgraded his sleigh to a vintage fire engine this year and will be arriving in style to turn on the Diss illuminations. He’ll be joined by the Diss panto crew and there will be live music, carol singing, magician Ali Shazam and a funfair too!

 

5) King’s Lynn, Thurs 28th November, 4-6pm 

Christmas churchThe fun starts at 4pm with fairground rides in the Tuesday Market Place. Get your festive costumes and glow sticks for the light parade which will leave Stories of Lynn at 5pm and arrive in the Tuesday Market Place at 6pm. Craft and artisan food stalls, live Christmassy music and a special appearance from Britain’s Got Talent champions Twist and Pulse!
 

6) Thetford, Fri 29th November – Sun 1st December

Enjoy a weekend of festive fun in Thetford starting with the Christmas lights being switched on on Friday 29th from 4pm to 7.30pm, then the Winter Wonderland celebrations continue over the weekend with live music, fairground rides, stalls, children’s entertainment, food, drink, a chance to spot Santa and plenty more. On Sunday, December 1, the Thetford Winter Wonderland 5km Santa Run is at 10am – money raised goes to local charities and fancy dress is encouraged!

 

7) Sheringham, Fri 29th November, 5.00 – 7.00pm

An illuminated parade for bikes, scooters, trikes and prams, plus various live performances from the Little Theatre, primary school choir, and carols with the Salvation Army band. A Christmas Market with Father Christmas and real reindeer.

 

8) Wells Christmas Tide Festival, Sat 30 November, 10.00 -6.00pm

An all-day jamboree of entertainment with craft stalls, live music, Punch & Judy, lantern parade and the peice de resistance – Santa arriving by boat. The lights will be turned on at 5pm followed by fireworks.

 

9) Cromer – Sat 30th November, 5.30-6.00pm

Festive fun all day, torchlit procession from North Lodge park from 4.30pm and the lights switch on outside Cromer Church.

 

10) North Walsham, Sat 30th November, 2.30 – 8.00pm

Christmas fairy

Join the Funday Queen for an afternoon of food and drink, entertainment and the official switching on of the lights at 6pm.

 

11) Aylsham, Fri 29th November, 4.00-8.00pm

Games, crafts, street food, entertainment, Christmas market and the big man himself. Plus ITV weather man Chris Page starts the countdown for the big switch on at 6.30pm. Don’t forget to pop along to Blickling Hall to see their Christmas lights too!

 

12) The Festival of Light in Reepham, Thurs 5 December, 4.30pm to 7.30pm
