Muddy Guide Thurs 12 – Weds 18 May 2016

Summer isn’t officially here until June, but the weather doesn’t seem to be paying much attention. It’s beautiful out, and – as a double whammy – tomorrow marks the start of the 2016 Norfolk & Norwich Festival. Here’s a quick peek at what’s coming up:

the tempest

Thurs 12 – Sat 21 May
The Tempest, Great Yarmouth Hippodrome, Great Yarmouth
What British cultural festival is complete without some Shakespeare? This production takes full advantage of the magic of its Victorian theatre to create a production full of wonder even for the special effect-connoisseur of modern audiences. With a run of 10-day-run, there’s plenty of chance for you to find time for a trip to Great Yarmouth to see it. Tickets start at £8 and go up to a max of £22.
Hippodrome Circus, St. Georges Road, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, NR30 2EU. Tel: 01493 844172.

Fri 13 May
Flat, The Forum, Norwich
Hope you’ve got a head for heights! This is a dizzying aerial spectacle running for 30mins at 10pm. Watch as one man goes about his home – except that his home is suspended from the walls of a local landmark The Forum, and he’s going to be leaping, falling, and climbing rather than shuffling around in his slippers. Deep thinkers encouraged.
Bethel St, Millennium Plain, Norwich, Norfolk, NR2 1BH. Tel: 01603 727920.

Sun 15 May

The Story Machine, Dragon Hall, Norwich
Step into the stunning 13th Century Dragon Hall and submerge yourself in literature. Explore the halls, hideaways, gardens and cellars of this beautiful medieval trading hall and discover readings, installations and projections by world-renowned writers. If you want to whet more than your cultural appetite, try out some of the great street food pop-ups or the bar, both of which are going to be themed especially for the event. Starts at 7.30pm.
115-123 King Street, Norwich, Norfolk, NR1 1QE, Tel: 01603 663922. city_of_literature/the-story-machine

Mon 16 May
A Lie, Norwich Arts Centre, Norwich
Are you a fibber, a liar or a concealer of the truth? According to the ‘Queen of British Performance Poetry’, we all are
– and we shouldn’t pull our hair out over it. Join Francesca Beard, who has performed to rave reviews both in the UK and internationally, as she asks whether lying is our best art and most human need. 6.30pm.

Sans Objet

Sans Objet

Tues 17 – Weds 18 May

Descend into a futuristic fantasy world as acrobats perform alongside a brilliantly imagined robotic arm. It might sound a bit bonkers, but man vs machine is a pretty common fixture of modern media these days; this work is remarkable in its originality.
