This Week

MON 30 April - SUN 6 May 2018

Open Mic, The Birdcage, Norwich, Wed 2 May

bar balloons wooden benches and tables

The best of local talent showcases at the Birdcage – poetry, music, comedy and even once an 8 piece Oompah band. It’s a great mid week night out and if you’re lucky you might even witness the next Ed Sheeran or Isaac Gracie (both performed here before they got all big ‘n’ that).

£3 for spectators

Nothing like a Dame, Cinema City, Norwich Wed 2 May

dames, older women

From time to time four old friends, all extraordinary actresses, meet up in the English countryside to gossip, to remember and to laugh. For once they let the cameras in…

NOTHING LIKE A DAME celebrates the lives and careers of four of our most iconic actresses; Dame Eileen Atkins, Dame Judi Dench, Dame Joan Plowright and Dame Maggie Smith. All four have gone from being fledgling actresses in the 1950’s to acting royalty.

Sit back and listen as they talk about their lives and their professional experiences across Theatre, Television and Film and as the title professes – there is truly nothing like a Dame…

Book tickets £9.70 – £14.20

Common People 3, The Open, Norwich, Fri 4 May

Heads up 90’s lovers – DJ Steve Lamacq is in the house!

Snakebite & black with a vodka & lime chaser – don’t mind if I do! I’ll be pulling on my Parka and casually swaggering my way down Indie and Brit Pop memory lane at The Open.

Book tickets £9

This is my bed, The Theatre Royal, Norwich, Sat 5 May

man in bed

“Let’s do something a bit cultured with the kids” – cold sweat, shudder, remember the last time???

‘This is my Bed’ is an opera about bedtimes, bears and dreams pitched at 2-5 year old’s and therefore a nice introduction to the high-brow. Plus it’s in Stage 2 (not the main theatre) so treat it like a dress rehearsal for the real thing!

Book tickets £8

Norwich’s Vintage Weigh & Pay, St Andrews Hall, Norwich, Sun 6 May

I absolutely love all things retro and this is one of the biggest vintage sales to hit Norwich. Nine tonnes of handpicked vintage stock to rummage through! At £15 a kilo, we suggest you grab a big bag and get those elbows at the ready!

And for the hardcore rummagers amongst you, get in an hour early for the bargain price of £3.

£1.50 on the door

An Evening with Jane Austen, Holkham Hall, Sun 6 May

harp three women in evening dress

Set in the magnificent Marble Hall at Holkham, this charity event is perfect for anyone who has ever fantasized about being in a period drama. An evening of Austen duologues performed by actors, Adrian Lukis (Mr Wickham, in the 1995 BBC Pride and Prejudice, Peak Practice, Downton Abbey, the Crown and soon to be in Poldark) and Caroline Langrishe (Lovejoy, Judge John Deed).

Musical interludes from the Regency era and beyond will be performed by Harpist Louisa Duggan and Soprano Rosie Lomas.

Book tickets £50 – £50 includes a glass of champagne in the interval and a chance to see some of the state rooms in the Hall.

Happisburgh Lighthouse Open Day, Sun 6 May

Possibly one for the older children as little people under a metre tall can’t take part in the climb, although apparently they are welcome to visit the ground floor.  Mmm good luck with that, not sure there’s many 3 year olds that will be satisfied with that option!

112 steps to the top, just think of the Fitbit and the cream tea you can treat yourself to at Small Sticks Café!

Important disclaimer – sensible shoes MUST be worn!

Adults £5 Children (16 and under)£1
