Back to This Week

What’s on this week 21 – 27 Sept

Woah! September where did you go? No fear - I've got your last week covered with exhibitions, outdoor fun and the best food around. Off we scoot!

CULTURE: Art Nouveau: The Nature of Dreams, SCVA until January 2021

Now extended until early January, this exhibition of Art Nouveau objects showcases ceramics, glass, textiles, posters, prints and sculpture with the theme of nature and dreams at its centre. There are works by Degas, Rossetti and William Morris. Seriously – one not to miss.

Malca Shotten at Mandell Gallery, until 26 Sept

This is the last week to see the stunning work of Malca Schotten (pictured above) at Elm Hill’s Mandell Gallery. Malca works with The Arts Council on various projects and her work is part of the OWN ART scheme, which makes owning works of art more affordable to many – pretty cool stuff.

FAMILY: Crabbing in Wells, daily

Super busy in the summer but by September it’s the perfect time to go crabbing in Wells. It’s a fun, gentle way to pass the time and costs next to nothing – a Muddy no-brainer. Things can even get a little competitive – although social distancing will stop you from gawping into your neighbours buckets to compare catches.

GO APE, Thetford Forest, daily

Get swinging from the tree-tops and let the kids perform death-defying acrobatics all while reassuringly harness-locked under the guidance and safety of this nationally loved adventure park. Set in the treetops of lushious Thetford Forest, there’s challenges to suit even the most wimpy of adventurers. Next stop, bungy jumping!

High Lodge Forest Centre, Santon Downham Brandon, Suffolk, IP27 0AF

Canoe Trail & Paddle Boarding, Fairhaven, Weds & Sat

For a mid-week outdoor treat take a laid-back look at the wildlife and waterways with the canoe trail through the private broad of Fairhaven. If you fancy a tiny bit more of a challenge but aren’t quite at surfing dude levels you can get your balance bouyant with an instructor lead session of stand up paddle boarding.

Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden, School Rd, South Walsham, Norwich NR13 6DZ

EAT: Benedicts, book via website

If you’ve been depriving yourself of going out to eat for a while (haven’t we all?) then now is the time to get back in the gastronomic saddle if you can and trot down to the much-prized Benedicts for some exceptional fodder. If you’re unable to escape your four walls or just love staying in your pjs then go for the king of ready-meals with their Meal at Home. Celeriac En Papillote, followed by chocolate mousse with figs and pistachio? Beats a supermaket cottage pie, anyday.

9 St Benedicts Street, Norwich, NR2 4PE

Street Food Market at The Pigs, Sat 26 Sept

Get down to the Pigs in Edgefield for a dreamy Saturday in the countryside. Kick off your shoes to groovy local tunes from Cromer Soul Club and scoff some top notch street food (and cocktails). You’ll be back in festival mood before the sun goes down!

Norwich Rd, Edgefield, Melton Constable NR24 2RL 01263 587634
