This Week

MON 7 - SUN 13 JAN

Lots of cool and quirky things to do this week – where to start?

Walking Women, Holkham Hall, Tues 8th January

footprints in sand

If your resolution for 2019 is to focus on your health and fitness, throw those gym forms in the bin and venture out to Holkham Hall for a walk along Wells Beach in the company of other women. Ideal for those who are looking for a sociable way to improve their wellbeing.

Free

Circus! Show of shows, Time & Tide Museum, Gt Yarmouth – Tues 8th Jan – Sun 3rd March

Need to get the kids out of the house before they start hibernating? This exhibition takes you on a journey from the origins of Hippodrome Circus in Ancient Greece through to the Great Yarmouth ‘Hippodrome’ of modern day. Think Greatest Showman with a little less Jazz. Follow it with a brisk walk along the promenade, some penny arcade action and donuts and it’s a family day out sorted!

Book tickets Adult £5.95, Child £5, Family + 2 adults £20.95, Family + 1 adult £15.70

The Dialhouse Flash Sale, Reepham, Friday 11th & Saturday 12th January

So excited about this one as I absolutely love wandering around this unique restaurant and hotel where everything from period furniture and exquisite glassware to retro accessories are available to buy!

Flash Sale – you have my full attention and I’ll be taking no prisoners!

Free

Food Glorious Food, The Kings Head – Letheringsett, The White Horse & The Jolly Sailors – Brancaster, January

pizza with mozzarella and rocket

Three of our favourite coastal pubs have some great food offers on this month. If you’re turning a blind eye to dry January – head up to The Kings Head or The White Horse where you’ll get 50% off a main when you buy a bottle of wine. Now that’s the kind of offer we like at Muddy! Or hop over to the Jolly Sailors for their 2 for 1 pizzas – the perfect family treat.

Pop Up Vintage Boutique, Studio 20, Norwich, Sat 12th January

purple vintage shirt and red aline skirt

The Fabulous Miss K Store, Wild Daisy Vintage, Morwenna Farrell Illustration and Cactus Vintage UK are collaborating to bring us the best of Norfolk vintage! They’ll be a “live photo shoot ” capturing their collections before they hit the stores, plus if you buy anything on the day you can be “snapped” too!

70’s Night, The Talk, Norwich, Sat 12th January

disco glitter ball

Forget partying like it’s 2019. Dig out the glitter and flares and prepare for a night of funky disco nostalgia at The Talk. Get down and get your groove on!

Book tickets for £7 (free before 10pm)

The Tiger Who Came To Tea Exhibition, Blickling Hall, Sat 12th January – Sun 3rd March

A family favourite in the Muddy household and I can’t wait to take the Muddlings to see this new exhibition celebrating the book’s 50th Birthday. Littlies can enjoy interactive play with a life-sized tiger in Blickling’s 1930s kitchen whilst surrounded by displays of Judith Kerr’s illustrations, notes and sketches. The exhibition will also feature family trails in the house and garden!

Book tickets  Adults £10.35, Children £5.15, Family £25.90 (access to property and gardens)

Jonny Woo, The Playhouse, Sat 12th January

‘In’ or ‘Out’? There’s a hell of a lot to sing about – ‘Referendum-dumb’, ‘Swivel Eyed Loon’ and ‘The Ballot Box Ballad’.

Drag Superstar Jonny Woo and Olivier Award winning composer of Jerry Springer the Opera, Richard Thomas, bring you this sequin spangled musical ripped straight from the headlines. This is an uproarious yet seriously glamorous satire about the referendum of 2016 and the ensuing furore of ‘Brexit.’ Expect glittering star turns from Boris Johnson, Angela Merkel, Nigel Farage (of course) and a cameo from Theresa May.

P.S. This show comes with an official warning – it’s a bit rude!

Book tickets  £22

King’s Lynn Wedding Festival, King’s Lynn Corn Exchange, Sun 13th January

Did someone special pop the question this Christmas? If you were lucky enough to find some sparkle in your stocking, then start your preparations early by visiting the first Wedding Festival of the year. After all, it’s never too early to start planning, right?

Free

The Mechanical Circus, The Forum, Norwich, Wed 2nd – Sun 27th January

It’s the end of the Circus 250 celebrations and The Forum will be hosting an exhibition of mechanical sculptures, physics games and puzzles. This is circus with a physical twist (and we’re not talking acrobats!)

Free

Ken Kiff: The Sequence, The Sainsbury Centre, Norwich, now until Sun 21st April

The Sainsbury Centre is always a great way to spend a few hours and this colourful exhibition might even grab the kids’ interest. Widely considered to be one of the most important artists of his generation, Kiff spent his career exploring issues that fused the complexity of the individual psyche with everyday life. This major exhibition is the first showing of his work in a public gallery for over 25 years.

Plus – explore the brilliant works in the Sculpture Park – Lynn Chadwick’s Steel Beasts are still in situ.

Book tickets £8
