Super Flashy Newsflash!

17th century house turned 21st century gallery, shopping with soul, trailblazing rock stars, film crews wherever you look and TOWIE on the beach - it's all going on in Norfolk!

Cromer is the new Marbs

Essex girls

The cast of TOWIE swapped rhinestones for rubber (ooh-er!) to give surfing a go near the pier – we reckon Glide didn’t know what hit them! Diags and gang were spotted scoffing bags of chips from No.1 Cromer – excellent choice! And we know where they stayed too, keep it to yourself but seems TOWIE’s been studying Muddy’s Little Black Book!

Shopping with soul

Norwich is a trailblazer for shopping with heart and soul, so if sustainable fashion is your passion, step into Lalita’s Wardrobe at her Pop-Up shop. Inspired by the colours of the world, theatre and sunshine, Lalita’s turned years of backpacking and global friend-making into a micro business with big dreams.

We love her dreamy kimonos and short reversible jackets – casual as a summer fling over vest and shorts. They’re one-off wonders made from recycled vintage sari fabrics, little pieces of history. Want to know where your clothes come from? Then check out Lalita’s website and meet the actual tailors. Like she says, the company is ‘a very small jolly team with an ethos of creativity, loyalty and friendship at the heart’. How lovely is that?!

Right now 2.5 % of each sale from her website goes straight to a grass roots project in Amravati, a village in Maharashtra, India, so when you snag a ‘Wow! Where can I get one of those?!’ totally unique piece, you’re helping humans in unimaginable circumstances maintain their livelihoods. Basically a massive win all round!

Check our her Norwich and Cambridge pop-ups in May!

Art News

Exciting to see new life for this beautiful Yarmouth 17th century merchant’s house turned 21st century gallery! The Yare Gallery is on Great Yarmouth’s South Quay and opens 29 May. The first exhibition (on for 6 weeks) is WEATHERING: NEW ART FROM EAST ANGLIA, featuring the work of the Yarmouth 5, artists Katarzyna Coleman, Bridget Heriz, John Kiki, Emrys Parry and Brüer Tidman. There’ll also be paintings, sculptures, textiles and ceramics by over 20 other artists from across East Anglia. The gallery curator is Sarah Lowndes, research fellow at NUA and Director of Kunsthalle Cromer, who’s previously curated exhibitions for galleries including Glasgow’s Centre for Contemporary Arts. Muddy wishes the new space every success, it’s going to be pretty special.

Give me some Skin

2021 is all booked up, step up 2022. British rock icons Skunk Anansie announced their return to the road with a major headline tour including Norwich – The LCR at the UEA on Thurs 21 April 2022 at 7.30pm. Skin herself is one of the most trailblazing female performers of all time. Can’t wait? Catch her brilliant The Skin Show on Absolute Radio, Sunday nights 10pm to 12am. And book now!

Lights, Camera, Action…

Not Boris (Image: SkyUK)

As if TOWIE’s not exciting enough, Kristen Stewart’s been filming on the beach at Hunstanton. As Princess Diana in the upcoming Spencer, she commented Diana has “very architectural hair, so we’re going to build it…I don’t think I can do it solely with my own hair”. Jeepers! Gonna take some serious wig glue to deal with that Norfolk March wind!

And Academy-Award winning actor, writer, campaigner and all round brilliant woman Emma Thompson has been in Norwich with Peaky Blinders‘ Daryl McCormack. No, don’t be ridiculous! She’s happily married to the irritatingly handsome Greg Wise! She was here to film Good Luck To You, Leo Grande about a wife in a humdrum marriage who hires a sex worker…topical for some? Just saying’…

But hang on, that pic’s not Emma Thompson! That’s our supreme leader Bojo! Or is it? Actually, it’s the lovely Sir Kenneth Branagh, hair fluffed up like a confused chick, in character as the PM. Seen filming in Heydon and Aylsham…I must say, the likeness is Un-Kenny. Badum-tish!
