Romance at Holkham
A wonderfully unique experience to stay in one of five iconic lodges on the Holkham Estate in North Norfolk. Sleeping only two people (+well behaved pooches) – it’s the perfect romantic getaway!
Rich in heritage and culture, Holkham Hall has been enjoyed by residents, visitors and royalty since 1609 – and now Muddy. Trust me, we’ve reviewed everything and we absolutely love it!
The Norfolk Cottages managed lodges are bursting with original features and stylish design, plus they only sleep two people (+ well behaved pooches) making them the perfect romantic getaway.
Which to decide upon? Let us help you with that …….
Grade 1 listed Triumphal Arch
Designed by the renowned architect William Kent, the Triumphal Arch has been given a beautifully stylish makeover by Lady Leicester herself and interior designer Johanna Tennant. The draped four poster bed is very much the focal point and as you lie in bed, you can see all the way along the South Avenue leading to the Obelisk and the Hall. There’s everything you need to hide away from the world – a compact kitchen and cloakroom, shower room and bedroom/living space with roll-top bath, king size bed, open fire and cosy seating.
Tucked away on the private Golden Gate Drive to the east side of the Estate, this bijou ground floor studio is ideal for those looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Offering the ultimate in tranquillity as well as the opportunity to explore the natural wonders of this iconic stately home. No cooking facilities but why would you want to when you have The Victoria Inn right on your doorstep?
Grade 2 listed gatehouse Palmers Lodge
Vaulted ceilings in the open plan living area, comfy sofas, a wood burner and the most romantic of bedrooms. The true uniqueness is revealed in the subterranean level; once the vaulted cellars, there’s now a glass atrium for some bedtime star gazing! There are a few essentials for making a brew and breakfast but otherwise you’re discouraged from putting in too much effort on the catering front (there’s a microwave, if you must).
South Lodge West
South Lodge West dates back to 1847 and was designed by well-known architect, S. S. Teulon. Lovingly restored to its former glory and more, this is the perfect retreat for a wander down to the beach during the Summer months or to cosy up inside by the wood burner during the cooler times. There’s a petite kitchen area with microwave, kettle and toaster otherwise encouraging you to enjoy the many eateries of Wells, The Burnhams and beyond.
South Lodge East
This stylishly designed couple’s retreat offers a fabulous contrasting mix of traditional interiors with contemporary pops of colour. There’s a cosy living room for romantic evenings, with a wood burning stove to keep toes and paws warm after winter walks. The enclosed garden is the ideal spot for alfresco dining in the warmer months after long walks on the beach or cycling around the lake, with bike hire available on the Estate.
You would think that staying on the estate alone would be enough. Oh no – there are a few extra touches:
- parking passes for the park and beach
- 10% discount at The Victoria Inn
- 10% discount at The Beach Cafe in Wells-next-the-Sea
- 10% saving in The Courtyard Gift Shop and Café in Holkham park
- 10% off standard admission to Holkham Hall, Field to Fork Experience and the Walled Garden during the visitor season from April to October (we would advise you check details of opening times for each attraction on the main Holkham website)
- Complimentary continental breakfast at your property for you to enjoy on the first morning of your stay
