My Favourite Places: Salt Interior Design’s Holly Pagani
Muddy catches up with interior designer Holly on her top spots across the county - from hidden gastro gems to Alpaca walking.
Where real Italian cooking happens – this is where to find the most delicious pasta in Norwich. Fashionable Benoli is where Holly loves to go for a drink with friends or a meal with the hubby. Muddy agrees: the sage and ricotta ravioli I had here was outstanding, as was the service.
The Globe Inn, Wells
I have a soft spot for The Globe Inn, in Wells-next-the-Sea, where I designed and refurbished the rooms, says Holly. The Globe offers the perfect relaxed, refreshing seaside retreat, with great food, comfortable airy surroundings and the Norfolk coast on the doorstep.
The Tamarind, Blofield
Blofield’s fine dining secret is The Tamarind and this isn’t the kind of restaurant you’d expect outside of a city centre. Holly is delighted to have discovered the award-winning Indian / Bangladeshi since she moved to the area only a year ago.
Hoveton Hall Gardens, Wroxham
A garden for every mood – Hoveton Hall has numerous varied garden walks to inspire and delight, even if yours is the size of a postage stamp. Holly loves to take a walk around these stunning gardens and take a pit-stop at the Kitchen Garden Cafe, which serves fresh local food (once Covid restrictions allow).
The Barn Beauty Rooms, at White House Farm Norwich
Holly describes herself as fairly low-maintenance, but when she does go for a bit of a pamper she loves a visit to Alice at The Barn Beauty Rooms at White House Farm, to have her nails done. WHF is an award-winning farm shop and butchery, which is developing into a village / hub of industrious independent local businesses.
The Painted Barn, Barnham Broom
The Painted Barn, a 16th century restored milking barn that’s now a cafe / shop at Barnham Broom. Holly says the food and coffee are fabulous, and it’s a lovely environment (especially since there’s such a warm welcome from hosts Julie & Nick). If your thing is vintage finds and painted furniture you’ll be right at home here.
Alpaca Walking, Burnt Fen Norfolk Broads
For an afternoon of down-time a visit to the local Alpaca farm, where visitors get to meet and walk these adorable furry creatures for a couple of hours at a time, is up there with the faves. ‘I love their little faces’ says Holly. We agree. Burnt Fen’s Alpaca Walks help support Love the Broads, a charity that helps sustain / nurture the landscape and environment around the Broads.
