The talented locals behind The Indie Store
We're all about supporting local. Let's meet the people behind the brands and find out what inspired them to make it happen.
Walnut Tree Distillery
Walnut Tree Distillery‘s techniques and ingredients go back for generations. Emma’s grandfather was born in the nearby village pub (The Fox at Lyng) and he went on to start the farm while her grandmother made sloe gin in the farmhouse. The gin making on this 100 year-old working family farm in the beautiful Norfolk countryside continues to this day. The gins are distilled in converted milk churns using local flowers, berries picked from the hedgerows and walnuts from the trees in the farmhouse garden.
Thistle & Wax
Founded in 2020 in the kitchen of a Norfolk cottage, Thistle & Wax is the brainchild of Millie – a florist by day and lover of all things natural and environmentally friendly. When Millie isn’t preparing amazing bouquets for her clients, she’s busy creating these beauties. These stunningly scented, hand-poured candles are vegan, include no nasties and are sustainably packaged.
The Norfolk Hare
The Norfolk Hare began six years ago when Stuart and Tam met on the 5.47am train from Diss to London Liverpool Street. The pair quickly realised they had a shared a love for beautiful things (and dogs) and over many subsequent train journeys commuting hatched a plan that became The Norfolk Hare. Tam’s mum was an inspiration (having also loved hares) and had wanted to set up a shop selling lovely things; she sadly passed away before it happened. Specialising in British-made, local, artisan and international ethically sourced homewares, gifts and artworks, Norfolk Hare love working with artists and creators.
