Cheers! It’s the Muddy Awards shindig!

You did it, they did it, we all did it! We all voted in the Muddy Awards 2021 and what an amazing year it's been - so pour the gin and let the celebrations commence!

Cate and Kelly ready for cocktails, err…we mean ready for action!

See what happened when our fabulous Norfolk winners navigated pings, petrol crises, torrential rain and high winds to meet together and celebrate at hip city hangout The Earlham in Norwich.

We asked. You voted. And voted. And voted. Wow! The competition was fiercer than ever this year – over 75,000 businesses entered and 850,000 votes were cast across the 25 Muddy counties – that included over 1,751 businesses and close to 15,000 votes in Norfolk alone!

Speech time!

Kelly and I had an absolute ball kicking back with Norfolk’s finest independent businesses – our AMAZING 2021 Muddy Award winners.

This year we were over the moon to be hosted by The Earlham, uber cool pub, sensationally zhuzhed up by fabulous Rose during lockdown. We love the hot pink neon ‘Your Vibe Attracts Your Tribe’. Too right!

Tribe Norfolk!

East coast wind and rain were picking up as we welcomed our winners with autumnal gin cocktails – pink grapefruit with a thwack of woody rosemary and delectable cloudy apple with a whisper of summer elderflower and seasonal spice.

Cheers!

Thanks to the boys at Hello Sailor Gin for providing the booze – we all loved that sassy bottle design fellas!

Ahoy there!

Thank you to Rose, Dave and Team Earlham who looked after us so brilliantly – those fab canapés totally hit the spot!

A special nod to Norwich’s finest mixologist Jamie (so cool he flies under the social media radar and is known only by the tip top quality of his cocktails).

It was great to work with wonderful Mary Doggett from ETT Photography – thank you for snapping the funkiest event in town!

And of course a huge thanks our amazing local sponsors, Art Academy East in Norwich! You HAVE to check out their incredible art classes and get your creative spark fired up!

The Earlham Art!

Norfolk indies really put their hearts and souls into their businesses so it was a joy to see the pleasure and pride as every one waved their wholly deserved certificates. My favourite thing about the Awards is the hugely generous way everyone supports each other.

Finalists rooted for others in the same category and start-ups would only accept a nomination if they’d had time to serve their community. And community is absolutely what Norfolk businesses are all about. Collaboration over competition, nurturing connections, local independents helping each other out and sharing their wins as well as the trials.

Clockwise from top left – Team Loaf Microbakery; Matt & Emma from Flicka with their boss; Leanne and the fabulous Bookbugs & Dragon Tales twins; Cindy and Karl from Heydon Village Tea Shop.

Bottom row from left: Rajul The Small Gardener; Rachel (Zumba) with her partner in crime Lucy; Sarah and Craig from Sonkai Jewellers.

Mirror mirror on the wall…

It’s been a tough time across the board, so the moment everyone clapped for each other was seriously emotional. There was a whole lotta love in that room! Thank heavens for waterproof mascara!

We can’t wait to see what the next year brings for you all.

Meanwhile, keep showing your love for independent businesses. Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, cheer-up gifts, treats, just because it’s Wednesday. All the reasons. All the time. In love with local forever!
