Worstead Estate, Smallburgh

This stunner of a wedding venue checks all the boxes: countryside views, 2000-acre grounds, a thatched barn for ceremonies and restored Georgian accommodation for 31. All that, plus a farm shop that specialises in wagyu beef? We're there quicker than you can say, 'I do!'

Brides-to-be, feast your eyes on this countryside find – the brand new Woodyard wedding venue on Worstead Estate, North Norfolk. It might have started life as a sawmill, but now The Woodyard is the ideal venue for all seasons, thanks to the combo of beautifully restored indoor spaces and gorgeous grounds, complete with lake and Walled Garden.

The Thatched Barn is a standout space, with exposed beams, Georgian brick and vaulted ceilings for a light and airy feel (hello, rustic barn wedding of dreams!). Hold your entire wedding here, or start in the smaller, elegant Mulberry Room for your ceremony – the blank canvas is perfect for adding your own stamp – before retiring to the Thatched Barn for your reception. Feeling brave enough to plan an outdoor ceremony? Say your vows in the Walled Garden, on the West Lawn, or on the incredible Lake Island with newly-built summerhouse. There’s even a 1920s wooden rowing boat called ‘You and I’ that you can arrive to the ceremony in – photo opps galore.

After you’ve tied the knot, retire to the West Terrace for a well-deserved glass of champagne in the sun before dinner and dancing. You’ll be able to choose your own caterer, but when your wedding venue produces its own signature Wagyu beef on-site, it would be rude not to take advantage, don’t you think? (Fun fact: Worstead runs two-hour Wagyu tours with a burger lunch for £20pp!)

After you’ve tripped the light fantastic, you and up to 31 guests can rest your heads in one of the gorgeous Georgian cottages dotted around the grounds. There’s the grand Holly House, which sleeps 15 in 8 bedrooms (ideal for the fam or for the bridal party), the Estate Cottage which sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms, and the cosy New Lane Cottage which sleeps up to 4 in 2 bedrooms – sounds like the perfect newlywed cottage to us! Coming soon is Gatehouse North, a new cottage due to open this spring. As well as frankly flippin’ fabulous decor, the houses come packed with mod cons to make your stay extra special, including hot tubs, BBQs, and woodburners.

No wedding bells ringing just yet? You can book any of the Estate’s cottages for self-catering stays and roam the grounds at your leisure! You’re perfectly placed to explore the North Norfolk countryside and coast (the beach is about 15 minutes’ drive away), or you can pop into the city if you need a little hustle and bustle – Norwich is around 30 minutes away.
