Wild Retreat, Cawston
Ready to channel Out of Africa? Take a walk on the wild side to Wild Retreat, an idyllic glamping site in rural Norfolk countryside complete with safari-inspired bell tents, chef-prepared meals and luxury beauty treatments.
Fancy truly getting away from it all, without leaving the county? Well then pack a bag and head straight to Wild Retreat in Cawston, a rural spot so peaceful you’d never know it was only a 25-minute drive to central Norwich (or half an hour to the coast if you fancy dipping your toes).
You’ll have the entire campsite to yourself, as Wild Retreat is home to a single, plushly-designed safari bell tent that can sleep up to four – talk about exclusive use! The tent comes complete with African-inspired decor and gorgeous wooden furniture (including a king-sized bed to snuggle down in and enjoy the, ahem, views). As well as the bedroom tent, there’s a neat separate shower and loo, a kitchen tent, a dining area and firepit with comfy seating. Need a little more space? There’s an additional bedroom tent available that sleeps three. We also hear there’s a hot tub in the works for 2022 guests…
To add the luxe touch to your glamping getaway, you can request a private chef to whip you up a meal or two (ideal if, like me, you could burn cereal), and massages and treatments are available at owner Anna’s salon, Heavens Above, which is on site. Treatments include anything from stress relief massages and facials to mani-pedis and bikini waxes, all a stone’s throw from your tent. This is glamping, not camping after all – right ladies?
If you can bear to drag yourself away from the site, Cawston itself is home to friendly and traditional pub The Bell Inn, an indie deli and patisserie and a corner shop for the essentials. The stunning North Norfolk coast and groovy, pretty Norwich are both less than half an hour away, giving you the option for a day at the beach followed by a night on the town. When can we book in, please?
