Norfolk Cottages

Muddy Says: From traditional fishermen’s cottages or beach huts to high end, luxury townhouses and converted barns they have something to suit everyone!

The largest, leading independent holiday lettings agency in Norfolk they certainly know their stuff when it comes to making the perfect home away from home. Here at Muddy we love to shout about  a success story and over the past 27 years this award winning family business has grown to a whopping 550 holiday properties county-wide.

With offices in Holt, Reepham and Wells-next-the-Sea – it is their local knowledge that sets them apart from the rest. Born and bred Norfolk – they know the area like the back of their hand and like Muddy they have a gold standard when it comes to recommending places to eat, drink and visit.

The variety and range of properties is impressive – catering for couples looking for a romantic break to friends booking a reunion get away to families looking for a high spec staycation. Plus over half of the properties are dog friendly, which gets a big Muddy Norfolk tick!

We’ve pulled together a few examples to tease you but hop over to their site to see many more amazing Norfolk Cottages properties.

Best for large groups – The Cattle Shed, Wighton, North Norfolk Coast

Sleeps 10 in 4 bedrooms, 2 pets allowed

Is this the most beautiful barn conversion in North Norfolk? I’m struggling right now to suggest another to be honest! A former cow-shed (hence the name), this brand-new property has been lovingly converted to provide chic, high-end accommodation with only a few clues to its previous life, such as the cow pictures that adorn the walls, farmhouse table and exposed brick and timbers throughout. The living area is light, airy and spacious, with comfy sofas for all. The ‘DeVol’ kitchen with Oroco work-tops reflect the high quality of fixtures and fittings throughout.

Kids will love the bunk room, with four bespoke fitted beds – perfect for midnight chats (feasts). Outside, there’s a fully enclosed courtyard garden, seating area with table, chairs and barbecue for al-fresco dining. The area is totally secure for families with potential escapee pets and children.

Surrounded by coastline you won’t be short of things to do – Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham are two of our favourite beaches. Blakeney is a short drive where you can try a spot of crabbing or take a boat trip and visit the grey seal colony. Check out our What’s On and Fun Finder for the best places to Eat, Drink and Play in the area.

Price from £1065 per week.

Best for families Keeper’s Cottage, Hemblington, Norfolk Broads

Sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms, 2 pets allowed

It’s got an indoor swimming pool, a lake on the doorstep and trails through private woodland. For families wanting to get away from it all, to enjoy the simple pleasures in life, Keepers Cottage is hard to beat.

A former gamekeeper’s lodgings, this roomy thatched property has been newly renovated to give a modern, contemporary edge – everything you can expect from a 5-star holiday property. And whilst the interiors form the perfect setting for a relaxing family stay it’s the grounds that make this property not just stand out, but shine. There’s an enclosed garden with seating area on the patio and just beyond – a huge lake for wild swimming and woodland for den building and exploring.

Lots of idyllic good life things to do from cycling and walking through the local nature reserves to boat trips and water activities on the broads. Close to both Norwich and the coast – you won’t be short of activities to keep you busy.

Price from £895.

Best for couples Palmers Lodge, Holkham Estate, Holkham

Sleeps 2 in 1 bedrooms. Two pets allowed.

If you fancy a little Downton Abbey style romantic period action then Palmers Lodge on Holkham Hall Estate is the place to stay. It boasts the most romantic bedroom in a subterranean vault with a king size bed to boot. Once cellars, today, it’s now covered by a glass atrium through which you can star gaze at the night time Norfolk skies.

The first floor is just as cosy with luxurious leather sofas, wood burning stove and vaulted ceilings.

The Holkham Estate is in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Coke family at Holkham Hall will be your neighbours for the weekend. The grounds are ideal for cycling and walking and you can even take to the water on the lake during the warmer months of the year.

You are not far from the delights of Holkham Beach and The Victoria Inn – both featured on the site. For more ideas on what to do in the area visit our Things to do, Eating Out and Travel sections.
