The Grove, Cromer
Muddy says: Nestled in four acres of glorious Norfolk countryside and only a short walk along a private pathway to Cromer beach, The Grove has all the makings for a great dining experience or break away.
Dating back to 1747, this family-run Georgian guest house has been through many reincarnations but has thankfully retained many of its original features – the wood panelled dining room is simply beautiful.
Talking of food – the restaurant (open to the public as well as residents) has 2AA rosettes and most of the produce is grown by octogenarian and former owner, John Graveling in the on-site fruit and vegetable gardens, orchard or poly-tunnel.
And it’s not just food you’ll find at the bottom of the garden. The Massage Hut launched in December 2017 and offers a range of relaxing treatments for both guests and local residents. Why not spoil yourself with a massage and afternoon tea? Go on you’re worth it!
Groups and families can choose from large ensuite rooms in the main house, six dog friendly self catering cottages in the recently converted barn, or five well equipped Mongolian yurts in the large established gardens.
The Yurts sleep between 4 and 8 people and have all the creature comforts plus fire pits, BBQ’s and hammocks. You can pre-order a food hamper to make your stay that little bit easier or if you’ve had enough of camp cooking, treat yourself to breakfast, lunch or dinner in the main house!
The muddlings will be amused for hours bouncing between the heated indoor swimming pool, table tennis table and garden with its tree house and play area. That’s before you head down the private path to the beach and traditional seaside town.
The ivy covered house ticks all the romance boxes too with it’s small intimate dining area, cosy lounge with squidgy sofas and fireplace perfect for snuggling down with a good book and a glass of something warming.
The house sleeps up to 39 people and can be hired out entirely for exclusive private events and parties. The venue is licensed and perfect for weddings, either traditionally styled in the house or if you fancy a more festival feel, the grounds can be set up with marquees and of course the yurts make great guest accommodation.
Last and possibly my favourite Muddy extra – you’re welcome to park your helicopter at The Grove!
