The Norfolk Groomshed
Muddy says: Treat your four legged friend to a top to toe grooming experience at The Norfolk Groomshed in Swaffham – because pets need a pamper too!
We recently took our very bouncy springador Fletcher to The Norfolk Groomshed for his first ever haircut.
I have to be honest – I was a little nervous as doggie bath time at the Muddy residence can be complete chaos with shower and shampoo flying everywhere. However, owner David reassured us that they take everything at the dogs pace and can even allow for “alone” salon appointments for those furry clients that do not enjoy the company of other dogs.
They prefer not to muzzle or restrain and will gently work with you and your dog to make them feel safe. Fletch was easily won over with a few doggie treats – he’s such a dope! They even have a regular volunteer whose sole purpose is to shower the dogs with affection. Mr O was ready to give up his day job!
Based in the market town of Swaffham in central Norfolk, The Norfolk Groom Shed welcomes most animals (dogs, cats, rabbits) – young and old, of any breed, shape, size and temperament.
Owners Vickie Austin and David Moore absolutely LOVE animals which is clear to see when you look at the detail and care that has gone into creating this bright and open plan grooming salon. The front space is dedicated to a shop bursting with fabulous products from locally made dog bandanas to eco friendly pet treats. Everything is available from their online shop too!
Behind the waist height wall divide is where the magic happens and is open for all to see.
There’s even a separate chill out room for the pampered pooches to relax and wait for their owners to pick them up. It is best to not hang around (bit like nursery drop off) and you can easily kill time at the nearby CoCoes cafe in the grounds of our Muddy Award winning Strattons Hotel or Market Cross Cafe – perfect for watching the world go by in the busy market place.
Akin to a hairdressers, the atmosphere was buzzing with people (and dogs) sharing advice and top tips. I was particularly pleased to hear that grooming can be incredibly therapeutic and help with physical problems such skin issues, arthritis and muscular injuries.
The full groom experience includes a clip & style, hydro-bath, nail trim, ear and teeth clean – pick n mix options available if you don’t want the whole pamper.
The K9 Hydrobath massages and stimulates the skin at the same time, so not only is it the most effective way of washing but also provides a therapeutic water massage which helps with blood circulation and relieves tired muscles. Mmmm can I jump in please?
Fletch came away happy and smelling of lavender. He looked so darn smart, we couldn’t resist buying him a brand new collar and booking our other two dogs in for a family grooming session next month.
As we drove away, I was starting to question “will I have to share my personal grooming budget with the dogs?”
