Gorsey Meadow

Muddy says: If you’re looking to get away from it all, this bijou eco glamping site is surrounded by meadows, woodland and rivers. It’s the ultimate tranquility escape.

Gorsey Meadow is the type of place you book if you want to take your foot off the pedal, get back to nature and let the kids run feral for a few days.

Eco and glamping can go hand in hand, so banish any childhood memories of a lumpy field with a dodgy tent, bucket and camp stove. Oh no – this place certainly understands that the Devil is in the detail.

The site has five bell tents, which are replaced annually, and the owners offer a bespoke booking service to make sure the groups are well matched and positioned on the site. You will be asked to fill out a detailed form which helps them to personalise your tent and stay.  From the welcome basket with nature note books for the kids to the tailoring of duvets and decoration by age, gender and occasion – every stay is magical.

There is a flushing toilet and shower (with hot water) both in cute little recycled sheds.  There’s also an honesty shop with snacks and essentials, a games shed with lots of local information, a washing up station, a bug hotel, swing and small marquee with toys to shelter from sun and rain. The owners have relented and included a charging point for phones and devices, which I personally would hide from the kids and encourage them to run, climb and go wild in the woods.

You will share the meadow with an abundance of nature from inquisitive rabbits and strutting pheasants, to songbirds and tawny owls. Plus the occasional randy deer – don’t be alarmed it can sound like a T-rex!

There’s plenty in the area to keep you busy, from cycling/walking the Marriott’s way to ROARR Dinosaur Adventure which is less than five minutes away. There’s also lots of rivers for a spot of wild swimming.

At night you can gather around the two fire pits for warmth and marshmallows. If you fancy warming your insides too, the owners produce Humble Yard Wine which is definitely worth a bottle (or two).

If you don’t feel like cooking, it’s a short drive to The Fox in Lyng, The Honingham Buck and The Swan in Ringland.

The tents can be booked individually or the whole meadow can be hired for a special occasion. Plus there’s room for additional tents if required. It really is a perfect location for families, romantic getaways, hen parties, children’s parties, cycling tours and more. The owners are happy to accommodate all sorts of requests from belly dancing lessons to life drawing classes – they’ve seen it all.

Midweek during term time, they offer three nights for the price of two. Great for those with toddlers, home schooling families or couples with no children as you’ll often have the meadow all to yourself!

Weddings

Gorsey Meadow is in the grounds of the beautiful Hockering House which hosts weddings during the season and the glamping site can be hired to create a little VIP wedding village. Depending on the size of the party,  ceremonies can be held in the house, on the lawn or in the enchanting woods. The team at Hockering House love a themed wedding and positively encourage the bride and groom to be as creative as they want. From quintessential English tea parties to casinos, there’s not much that hasn’t been done, including ring bearing alpacas, dogs and birds of prey!
