House of Barks

Muddy says: A home away from home for dogs – with their very own lounge, sofas to sleep on and top notch catering, I’m not sure they’ll want to come home!

I’ve been waiting patiently for somewhere like this to open and I’m beyond excited that it’s finally arrived. House of Barks is the type of place where dog lovers like myself will feel utterly comfortable leaving their precious pooch.

Set in a large picturesque cottage in South Creake, North Norfolk, this boutique hotel for dogs offers food and lodgings to six doggie visitors. Not a kennel, cage or dog run in site, four legged guests live as part of the family with Jane, her husband, two sons and their three dogs. They have their own lounge including a wood burner and sofas to cosy down at night and a huge secure garden for them to play in all day. Jane will tailor walks around the number of dogs and their characters and has access to miles of private countryside.

When we arrived we were welcomed by a cacophony of barks and dogs of all shapes and sizes. I initially wondered how on earth Jane gets anything done but her house is beautiful and I can’t believe it but not a whiff of dog! Within five minutes, the door bell excitement had worn off and every dog was going about their business. Some in the garden playing, some asleep in beds under the stairs and others trying their best to snuffle some cake as we chatted about this exciting new venture.

Owner Jane offers a completely bespoke service to make sure your dog’s routine is exactly as it would be at home. From tummy massages to alleviate wind to games of hunt the sausage, nothing is too much effort. The feeling I came away with was similar to that when you find the perfect nursery for your little one – relief that they’ll be 100% loved and guilt free in the knowledge they’ll probably have a better time there than at home!

With a four star rating (you can only get 5 stars when you’ve been in business for at least five years), they offer daycare services, full boarding, a collection and drop off service, pooch pampering with 100% organic products, dog walking and even a chaperone service for dogs at weddings!

Jane also bakes homemade dogs treats – I’m not sure my pack of hounds will ever want to come home!

Absolutely fantastic. I dread having to leave my precious little dog but this does look like it wouldnt be so bad for her. Maybe one day when it isnt so hot I will bring her to visit you.
    Well done. Janet Ruff

My three will be staying in August – so I will be popping a review on the site!
