Holiday fun! What’s on in Norfolk this May half term
Somehow, it's already half term again! Fortify yourself with the Muddy guide to holiday fun, suitable from tots to tweens.
Abracadabra! Visit a magical-themed festival (or two)
There seems to be a shimmer of magic in the air this half term. Wroxham Barns are hosting Unicorn and Wizard Whitsun Half Term from 28 May to 5 June, featuring everything from wand-making workshops to “flying school”. Whether you will meet a real unicorn remains to be seen, but you can expect all the usual hands-on animal activities and tickets will give you unlimited rides in the fun park.
You might also want to dust off your wings for the Fairy Fair 2022, on 28 and 29 May at Bradmoor Woods. An enchanting celebration of theatre, folklore and the natural world, it will include plenty of magical workshops – plus the chance to visit the fairy king and queen in the woods.
Check out a cool new climbing cafe
We were ultra excited to hear about the launch of Rock Punk in Norwich, a cool climbing cafe inspired by Japanese “hole in the wall” style tiny gyms. Your teens will absolutely love it, although six to 14-year-olds are also welcome during off-peak times.
Even better, you can sit and enjoy coffee and cake while they get bouldering.
The theatre will also be hosting a Royal Families Family Workshop on 1 and 2 June, where the whole family can create their own Jubilee-tastic puppet…you can even make a corgi!
Pitch up to a fab football holiday camp
Have you got a five to 11 year old who loves a kickaround? Get them out of your hair (and help them hone their skills) at one of the Norwich FC Soccer Schools between 30 May and 1 June.
Taking place across Norfolk, in locations including Norwich, Dereham and Gorleston, the camps include training from FA-qualified coaches and the likely chance of meeting a Norwich City FC player or two – plus, plenty of footy-themed fun.
Have a jolly jubilee
Whitsun half term this year includes the Platinum Jubilee weekend, and there are oodles of royally-good family events going on across the county.
It’s never a bad time to visit Pensthorpe Natural Park, with its fab indoor and outdoor play areas. We especially love the sound of their A Royal Tea Party from 28 May to 5 June, where there will be a special trail around the park, and free activities including pond dipping and royal-themed crafts.
Meet Peppa Pig at the Aquarium
That’s right, the infamous cartoon pig is at the aquarium – of course she is. Bring your pre-schooler to meet her at the Sealife Centre Great Yarmouth from now until 3 July. With sharks, rays, penguins and luminous jellyfish, it’s always a fun place to visit – and you can combine it with a trip to the beach!
Have fun at…funderworld
Funderworld – the world’s biggest travelling fairground – is at the Norfolk Showground from now until 5 June. It has everything from huge, vomit-inducing rides for your teens as well as dodgems for your middlies and teacups for your tiddlies.
There’s also a huge food court serving crepes, waffles, candyfloss and hotdogs and the like – all the major food groups covered, then.
