The Old Stores
There are nice gift shops and then there are those that you simply want to throw your arms around – The Old Stores is the latter. A quaint little spot in the lovely village of Roydon near King’s Lynn, if you’re a fan of bunting, duck egg blue and hearts (as I wholeheartedly am), then this is definitely the store for you.
But this country store isn’t just about the items on sale, but the property itself – as much thought going into the outside as the in.
If you do manage to make it over the threshold, there are two floors of goodies to rummage through, all thoughtfully displayed in themes: wedding, dogs, children, etc (a good idea considering how many cards, crafts, gifts, antique pieces and interior pieces there are on display).
At the back of the shop is a little stairway that leads to the second floor where larger gifts are for sale – including artwork, furnishings, clocks and lighting.
Since opening in 2013, The Old Stores has started to offer an Interior Design Service, selling fabric or design by the metre to make and install soft furnishings, including handmade curtains, Roman blinds, lampshades and upholstery in fabrics from Harlequin, Clarke and Clarke, Romo, Villa Nova, Thibaut, Casadeco, Scion, Moon Wools, Andrew Martin, Malabar and more…
Tom puts on events from time-to-time, turning the backroom (essentially his gorgeous kitchen) into a festive Christmas department, while his springtime event allows guests access to the cottage-style garden.
I’ve thought of a new strapline for you Tom: The Old Stores – a country store with more…
