A Deepdale Christmas
There is nothing quite like wrapping up warm and wandering around a beautiful Christmas market, hot drink in hand, and this Friday sees the return of the annual – and every popular – Deepdale Christmas Market, with over 120 local artisans and producers battling for you attention with something for every budget, every present list and every taste.
If you haven’t been to the Deepdale Christmas Market before, you’ll be surprised to see how the small village of Burnham Deepdale – which has just 30 permanent residents – has become home to one of the East of England’s best festive markets.
Stalls are housed in three large marquees around the Dalegate Market site: in the Brick Barn of Deepdale Farm, the backpackers courtyard of Deepdale Backpackers & Camping and amongst the pews of St Mary’s Church – allowing you to hop in and out according to your body temperature!
There is free entry to the whole event, leaving your wallets free to buy presents, decorations, food and drink. Car parking is also free and cleverly set up in the farm yard and fields of Deepdale Farm – follow the directions of the signage and the car parking team.
Here are just some of the items that will be on sale – take a deep breathe readers: biscotti, soaps, chutneys, jewellery, glass, photographs, homewares, charcuterie, cards, chocolate, socks, hats, beer, posh pop, art, cushions, scarves, bags, brownies, jam, liqueurs, wine, pottery, wool… Are you still with me? Decorations, beard oil, origami, gluten free food, wreaths, toys, saffron, cheese, outdoor clothing, paper, felt, chocolate, wood, fudge, sloe gin and clothing. Phew-wee! You might even get ALL your Christmas presents under one roof – queue smug look!
There will be entertainment throughout the weekend in four locations around the site: the Dalegate Stage, the Orchard Stage, the Backpackers Stage and in St Mary’s Church. Singers and choirs will be working hard to keep you entertained – and don’t miss the return of the Christmas Jumper Flash Mob in the Backpackers Courtyard at 2.30pm on Sat 3 Dec after its successful debut last year.
And, of course, there vans and stalls dotted about selling mulled wine, hot choc, tea and coffee to keep you warm while you mooch around getting festive.
With stylish decorations everywhere you look, if you weren’t in the Christmas spirit before, you certainly will be after a visit here.
The Deepdale Christmas market is open from 12 noon to 7pm on Fri 2 December and 10am to 4pm on Sat 3 & Sun 4 Dec. deepdalechristmasmarket.co.uk
