Gotta love a jumpsuit!
Essentially it's an adult sized romper BUT if you get the right style they can be incredibly flattering on all shapes. Here's our guide to summer jumpsuits.
My mission was to find an alternative outfit for a wedding and I enlisted the help of the ‘style experts’at intu Chapelfield to find me the perfect summer jumpsuit. The brief wasn’t too exhaustive – something not too restrictive and it needed to be versatile enough to suit less formal occasions.
My preference for a jumpsuit over a dress is largely down to the fact I invariably get to a point where the stilettos are kicked off and I collapse on the grass rubbing my poor toes. There I will remain until I hit the dance floor (barefoot) a few hours (and wines) later. For both of these reasons a trouser is always better for maintaining some semblance of dignity.
Summer parties, a day at the races or perhaps the Royal Norfolk Show – the shops are bursting with colourful designs. To be honest, I may have gone a little off brief but I was having far too much fun. Excuse the awkward poses and smiles but it’s always good to see these things on a real sized woman don’t you think? Do keep scrolling as some pictures were absolutely best left to the professionals!
I love a bit of animal print but it’s a fine ‘Bet Lynch’ line to walk. However, this tiger stripe number from Warehouse oozed rock chick and is great for a city wedding. Plus, the belt worked well to flatter the mummy tummy.
I fell in love with the Biba Bird Jumpsuit. Fab retro vibe with lots of shimmer and I’m thinking it’s acceptable as an evening guest outfit. I bagged it anyway as it’s perfect for the Christmas party season and ticks the versatility box. The block colours were flattering and I absolutely love a pocket for those awkward/nervous hand moments!
Clockwise: Warehouse tiger print jumpsuit £52, Monsoon navy spot jumpsuit £99, Monsoon orange leaf print jumpsuit £65.00, Biba gold bird jumpsuit £75, Biba black jumpsuit with necklace £80, Phase Eight red jumpsuit £120, Hobbs navy jumpsuit £139
Lots of fabulous floral patterns and bright colours this season – don’t be a wallflower ladies. I’m loving the wide floaty legs. Anything under 5ft 8 and you need a high heel as they can make you look a tad dumpy. However, after a few wines, who cares? Flip flops on and dance the night away pain free.
The gold jumpsuit from Zara is gorgeous but definitely one for the long legged, willowy body shape (grrrr). More animal print with this snakeskin patterned jumpsuit from H&M. Light and floaty, it works well with both sandals and heels. For anyone a little bingo wing weary – the Monsoon green floral jumpsuit has slightly longer pretty cap sleeves so you can leave the bolero at home.
All stores can be found in intu Chapelfield, 40-46 St Stephens Street, Norwich, NR1 3SH
Ps: Word to the wise – be careful in the bathroom ladies, jumpsuits can be a little tricky and you might need a good friend to zip you back up!
