It’s a hold up
Heist Studios are the coolest new name in hosiery, with yoga-stretch technology, celeb endorsements galore and in sizes 4-24.
With Winter refusing to loosen its grip just yet and the notion of gamboling bare-legged in the warm sunshine but a pipe-dream, my thoughts this week are very much on keeping warm. So I’ve been testing out super-cool new(ish) online tights brand Heist Studios – my legs are toastily encased in their 50 deniers as I type – and I am massively impressed. Think there’s not much to get excited about when it comes to hosiery? Think again, my friend!
There is a lot to love about Heist Studios, which has gone from a titchy UK start-up to a favourite of fashion mavens and celebrities in under three years, now selling a pair every 15 seconds. (‘Believe the hype’, says Vogue.)
For starters, they actually listen to women and what they want. Before launching the founders spent a full year researching their product, working through 197 samples to get it just right, so that means sizing that properly embraces diversity, spanning sizes 04-24 (bonus points for using women of all shapes and sizes in their marketing) and they don’t dig in at the waist or itch at the backs of the thighs. Result!
Plus they come in two waistband heights (I’m loving the high ones – call me Simon Cowell but they hold everything in nicely and create a smooth line under skirts). Those waistbands don’t dig in or roll down either – the designers have taken their lead from high-end yoga pants that stay cemented in place and move with you, rather than against you.
What’s more, the range of deniers is carefully curated so there’s no faffing around sorting through a million different styles, simply choose from nude in 18 or a black 30 denier (size 04-14), and the black in 50 or 80 denier (04-24). The annoying toe seam has been repositioned so it sits just under your foot thus no rubbing, and – hurray! – they’ve done away with gussets entirely. Because no one likes a gusset do they? Even the word is horrible.
I’ve been wearing them all day as I variously whizz around town, type away at my desk and do school runs and I can confirm they are super-comfy, the fit is fantastic and they look the business (I hate cheapo shiny tights.)
These are proper investment tights, with prices starting at £19 (which sounds a lot but then I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve bought a multipack of budget ones and ended up binning them after one wear – a total false economy). And Heist Studios offer a #FirstPairPromise – basically if you’re a new customer and not happy with the size/colour of your first pair, they’ll exchange within 28 days and if you simply aren’t a fan, they’ll offer a no quibble refund.
