Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea

Spa hotel, quirky, coastal and cute - we've rounded up the best Norfolk has to offer! 

It’s the most important day of the year, so forget about the kids and treat yourself (and mum) to an afternoon of sweet indulgence with our guide to the best Afternoon Teas for Mother’s Day.

Spa Hotel 

Pinkies  at the ready! We have some fabulous spa hotels across the county and it’s always lovely to go to a big country pile and make like you’re in an episode of Downton Abbey. Plus a few strategic hints to the kids and you might get an upgrade to include a treatment.

Barnham Broom Hotel has a quite a menu of Afternoon Teas – traditional, chocolate, champagne, G&T, Pimms or cocktail. Book  £10-£22.95

Park Farm Hotel in Hethersett are offering a glass of Prosecco and a gift for every mum. Plus why not extend the day and enjoy a swim and steam with their leisure pass deal. Book £24.95 – £28.95

Head up to North Norfolk and take a champagne afternoon tea in the beautiful Congham Hall. Book early as they’re filling up fast £20-£30.

Shop ‘til you drop in Norwich and then wander down to The Lanes and relax in the fabulous Art Deco surroundings of St Giles Hotel. Book  £16.95



Fancy eating your scones somewhere a little bit different?  Pop along to The Urban Jungle Cafe  in Old Costessey where you can sit amongst jungle leaves and exotic plants and pretend you’re in paradise. Afternoon tea is all gluten free and includes unlimited tea and coffee. Book £20 -£25 and £12 for Mudlings.

Biddy’s  is a vintage inspired tea room situated in the Norwich Lanes with another in the market town of Aylsham. An eclectic mix of eras with fabulous furniture, objets and antiques. Lots of great design ideas to covert as you enjoy your tea and cake. Choose from the Afternoon Tea, Halfternoon Tea and High Tea for savoury lovers. Book £11.45 – £22.95

Winner of our Best Boutique Hotel 2018 – Strattons is not what you’d expect in a quaint little market town. The bold and funky decor is more Shoreditch than Swaffham and their Afternoon Tea is a little quirky too. Pop next door to interiors shop Bam & Arrow to pick up some lovely bits and bobs that you don’t need but simply must have! Book £16.50 – £28.50 (prosecco and free gift)

If you want to be totally off the wall – Grosvenor Chip shop in Norwich have a ‘High Sea’ Afternoon Tea. Sample a variety of battered delights served in their custom made chip stand. Book £15



The White Horse in Brancaster is one of my favourite venues on the coast for Afternoon Tea. The views over the marshes and coastal path to Scolt Head Island are just unbeatable plus you can go for a lovely long walk afterwards to burn off the buns. Book £15-£22.00

The Grove Hotel in Cromer offers a special flowering jasmine Afternoon Tea. Gardening mums will love the special ‘Jasmine Pod’, which unfurls in her tea glass to become a beautiful scented flower. Traditional and champagne also available. Book £14.50-£21.00

Traditional, High and Champagne are all on offer at Byfords in Holt. A guaranteed lovely day out – wander around the independent shops and art galleries before stuffing your face with the best brownies in North Norfolk! Book £16.95 – £27.50


Beautiful surroundings

The elegant Bank House Hotel in Kings Lynn is a former 18th Century Bank and an historic place to enjoy a spot of afternoon tea. Enjoy your finger sandwiches whilst looking out over King’s Staithe Square and a little Muddy tip – ask the staff if you can check out the wine vaults. Book £15 – £22.50

The Assembly House in Norwich has definitely stepped up the traditional offering with their fabulously fun themed Afternoon Teas. The gloriously Georgian surroundings are perfect for Mother’s Day tea. Book £25 – includes a glass of Kir Royale and a handmade chocolate box. Ps. Keep an eye out for their Easter themed Afternoon Tea!

Take a stroll in the grounds, explore the Broads or watch the longboats on the River Bure before settling in for Afternoon Tea at Wroxham’s Norfolk Mead Hotel. Weather dependent you can snuggle up by the roaring fire or if the sun is shining dine alfresco in the walled garden. Book £18.50 – £32.00

If you’re yet to experience The Ivy Brasserie in Norwich, this is the perfect opportunity. A cool Art Deco space with an elegant, curved champagne bar, plush velvet seating and colourful artwork. Definitely a fun and glamorous place to enjoy a traditional Afternoon Tea. Book £18.95 – £26.50



For those who fancy tea room traditional, step this way.

Cupcake & Bubbles is a lovely grade 2 listed building on Timberhill, Norwich. A stylish shop and cafe with lots of lovely vintage touches offering a rustic Afternoon Tea in the heart of the city. Classic, Savoury and Champagne – book £17.95 – £24.40

Between Norwich and Holt is the idyllic village of Heydon and on the picture postcard village green is Heydon village tea shop. This is a real step back in time type place, the whole village is unchanged by new buildings since 1887. Afternoon teas need booking 24 hours in advance but they’re worth it.

Folly’s Tea Room is a hidden gem of a cafe in Hoppers Yard, Holt. Vintage inspired, they offer three Afternoon Teas – traditional, the Pink Folly which comes with a glass of pink bubbles and The Gentleman’s Folly – savouries instead of cakes! (Gluten free available) Book £14.95 – £16.95

If you’re up in North Norfolk, check out Berni Beans in Hunstanton. They offer a vintage Afternoon Tea in a very traditional tea room environment. Plus you can hire their vintage crockery which is worth making a note for any events, parties or weddings! Book £20.00

Finally if you fancy a mum’s getaway, I’ve recently discovered Swallowdale Spa. A spa hotel not far from Wroxham, which can be hired exclusively for parties of up to 8 people. Heated indoor pool, bar, tennis courts, hot tub and treatment room. Plus an Afternoon Tea that is more like a banquet. Coming to the Little Black Book very soon, watch this space!
