Norwich Cocktail Week is coming

hero-shot

Taking place in Norfolk’s arty capital every year, Norwich Cocktail Week 2016 kicks off this Saturday and runs until 15 October – eight days rather than seven cleverly incorporating two Saturdays (two bites of the martini-doused cherry, if you will). Participating bars across the city will be mixing their own concoctions for wristband wearers to try.

Here’s how it works:

The wristband:
Get a fiver and two nuggets out of your purse and head to one of the venues below to purchase a wristband. Once it is securely on your wrist, show it at the door of any of the 30 participating bars and start drinking cocktails. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy!

  • Adnam’s Store, Unthank Road
  • Bonds, No 28 Tombland
  • The Champion, 101 Chapelfield Road
  • The Cottage, 9 Silver Road
  • Frank’s Bar, 19 Bedford Street
  • North, 7-9 Fye Bridge Street
  • Warwick Street Social, 2 Warwick Street

The participating venues:
All the bars and pubs taking part in Norwich Cocktail Week will have special offers for wristband wearers, including a £5 cocktail, an extension to their regular happy hour, an exclusive Cocktail Week menu and/or special 2-4-1 deals. Ker-ching!

The events:
There are a number of events organised by the bars during the week, with wristband wearers either getting in free or for a discount. In the past events have included masterclasses, tastings and cocktail competitions. Click here to see what’s on at each venue on each day.

Highlights this year will include an exclusive screening of Sailor Jerry followed by live music at Gonzo’s Tea Room on Sunday the 9th, a quiz night at Platform 12 on Thursday the 13th and a Gin Masterclass at the Adnams Store on Friday the 14th.

The cocktails:
Last but not least, the most important part of the event – the drinks! Venues will be creating their own concoctions especially for Norwich Cocktail Week but you don’t have to wait to find out what’s being shaken up – here’s a sneaky peak of some of the inventions that will be on offer:

Name of cocktail:
Cinema City

What’s it all about:
A drink that reminds you of going to the movies? However will they manage that? By infusing dark rum with freshly-cooked popcorn and adding a salty buttery taste through ‘fat washing’ of course (silly!). The cocktails are poured over ice and served with orange zest.

Name of cocktail:
Chilli and Pineapple Margherita

What’s it all about:
Red chilli, gold tequila and orange liqueur will be mixed with pineapple juice to create a cocktail with a kick.

The Warwick Street Social, Warwick Street

Name of cocktail:
The Dalmatian

What’s it all about?
A fresh and spicy drink will be whisked up using Reyka Vodka, grapefruit juice, a dash of mandarin liqueur and black pepper syrup.

The Plough, St Benedict’s Street

Name of cocktail:
Strawberry Shortcake

What’s it all about?
Anybody that can create this taste in a glass is a master. Framboise liqueur, creme de cacao and cafe XO patron will be blended together to re-create this classic dessert.
