Norfolk Spa Guide
We've rounded up the best of the bunch in Norfolk. All you need to do is sit back, relax and find your next bit of 'me' time!
Spas… what’s not to love? Whether it’s an hour at a day spa or a week-long relaxing retreat, having your troubles massaged away before sitting in a bubbly bath is the stuff of nectar. We’ve found nine great Norfolk Spas offering something for everyone.
Now, repeat after me: “We’re worth it…”
Best Group: Imagine Spas, Norfolk
The thing I love about Imagine is the consistency of Temple Spa products and treatments across the five spas in Norfolk. I love the ritual experience – body decompression and a foot massage is incorporated into all massages and the facials feel incredibly sensual rather than formulaic. Each Spa is unique but you’re safe in the knowledge you’ll always receive the same high quality experience. Trust me – I’ve tested them all!
Set in pretty red brick farm house in the village of Blofield Heath (only a 20 minute drive from Norwich) Blofield Spa offers an escape from reality. Step inside and you can be anywhere in the world and time no longer exists. Whether you book a half day or full day pamper – you can unwind and relax in their spa area, peaceful gardens or cute little Moroccan themed pods
The pretty sensory garden is a tranquil place to wander by yourself, take time to breathe and let your cares melt away.
They offer half and full day spa packages plus have a small restaurant where you can select from a healthy menu or treat yourself to afternoon tea and a glass of bubbles.
Set in the beautiful Georgian Park Farm Hotel, this is the perfect place for a girly get away. Simply cruising up the tree lined drive you know you’re in for a treat, this is pamper heaven what ever the occasion. They offer a range of half and full day treatment packages which include access to the leisure facilities – spa pool, sauna and steam. Why not upgrade and make a weekend of it and stay at Park Farm Hotel?
Discreetly homed within the refurished Wymondham Leisure Centre, the Spa is set away from the main sports area and is a little sanctuary of calm. There’s a large manicure and pedicure area, Thermal Suite, four tastefully decorated treatment rooms (including a double for special occasions) and modern changing rooms. Perfect for chilling out with friends on a spa package or nipping in for a quick steam after the gym or an express pedi while the kids are at swim lessons.
While its sister spas might impress with their location, it’s the added extras that come with the modern leisure centre (swimming pool, cafe, high tech gym and fitness classes) that make the Wymondham Imagine Spa a luxurious convenience.
For those living in or visiting West Norfolk, I can highly recommend a visit to the Imagine Spa within the grounds of the Best Western Knights Hill Hotel, Kings Lynn. Don’t let the ring road location be a deterrant, parking is stress free and as you leave the main road and enter the drive, you will be pleasantly surprised by this gorgeous period property.
The spa is a new build addition which means it’s fit for purpose with a nice sized swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna, a fully equipped gym, large changing rooms and coffee area. It’s also the only one of the Norfolk group that can offer all of the above plus a Thermal Suite, Hammam, Serial Mud Bath, Mineral Grotto, Relaxation Room and five beautifully appointed treatment rooms. Tick, tick tick!
Best Luxury Spa: Congham Hall, Kings Lynn
You don’t need to leave Norfolk to find a five star spa experience. Congham Hall Hotel is one of my favourite luxury spa hotels – oozing both style and sophistication!
Based just outside Kings Lynn in West Norfolk, this multi award winning 26 bed Georgian hotel is a real haven for relaxation. Surrounded by mature trees, gardens and 30 acres of beautiful countryside, if a weekend of zen is what you’re after, this is the place. The Secret Garden Spa is a charming modern offshoot of the hotel offering tailor-made treatments devised using the hotel’s own herb garden. You could easily spend a day floating between the gorgeous spa pool with water jets, out door hot tub, sauna, steam room and bio-sauna and foot baths. I actually lost 20 minutes in the rain forest shower – a complete sensory experience.
Best for… spa-themed rooms: The Pigs, Edgefield
Not only a fab place for family dining they also have a selection of gorgeous spa rooms and suites if you fancy a cheeky pamper break. They offer a range of therapeutic and indulgent body treatments and restorative facials using locally made and naturally sourced products. Plus there is a Spa Garden complete with hot tub.
The Spa rooms boast external saunas, dual bathing tubs, internal drench showers and a fire pit. Upgrade to a suite for all of the above plus a 6ft bed, a steam room and private outside courtyard (with drench bucket). You want more?? Check out ‘The Wallow’ their latest addition offering guests their very own hot tub deck set in a secluded garden.
You don’t have to stay over, half day packages are available from £65 per person, which include glass of fizz, use of Spa Garden, 30 minute treatment and two course lunch.
Best for … exclusive hire: Swallowdale Spa, Smallburgh
Swallowdale Spa is the perfect venue for an exclusive pamper party. A little more ‘Cheshire Homes’ than ‘Downton Abbey’, Swallowdale stands apart from your usual country spa hotel as you can have the run of the whole house. You and nine friends can have exclusive use of the indoor swimming pool, outdoor hot tub, tennis courts, Red Room (with honesty bar and snooker table) and treatment room.
Every bedroom is en-suite with bath (bagsy the Blue Room for the jacuzzi bath). High spec features including Bang & Olufsen sound systems, TV beds and air conditioning are throughout. Breakfast is included and their Afternoon Tea is more like a banquet – trust me you won’t be needing dinner!
When not booked out exclusively for large parties, Swallowdale operates as a traditional Bed & Breakfast with the added perk of an optional day spa package with Afternoon Tea. Great for smaller groups or couples looking for a pamper stay close to the Norfolk Broads or coast.
Best Boutique Spa: The Norfolk Mead Hotel, Coltishall
Winner of our Muddy Best Boutique Hotel 2019, The Norfolk Mead Hotel is a gorgeous Georgian country retreat, set in eight acres of gorgeous grassy meadows and a frontage onto the River Bure. An unassuming place but with incredible attention to detail – making it the perfect place for a pamper. The spa itself is small but well-appointed, with its own range of Natural Spa Factory beauty products and a full menu of beauty treatments available for men and women. This is defintely my recommend if you’re looking for somewhere beautifully bijou.
Best for …… interesting treatments: The Little Retreat, Ryston Hall, Downham Market
Winner of Muddy Norfolk’s Best Day Spa 2019 – The Little Retreat is a hidden gem set in the beautiful grounds of Ryston Hall, West Norfolk. More of a high end beauty salon, the Muddy appeal is their creative range of Elemis treatments and group spa packages, including Afternoon Tea, ‘Pizza night in’ and the pièce-de-résistance – exclusive use of the salon and unlimited treatments for £1000 per day!
Lots of lovely age defying and body lifting treatments including the very latest LED facials plus our favourite – ‘Four Hands to Kedamaian’ – trust us, four hands are better than two!
Best for… the full package: Barnham Broom Hotel, Barnham Broom
Set in 300 acres of the beautiful Norfolk countryside and only a 25 minute drive from the bustling city of Norwich, Barnham Broom is an unusual collection of red brick buildings and home to a 4-star hotel boasting 46 bedrooms, spa and leisure facilities, an award winning restaurant and a golf course.
The Spa has five spacious treatment suites, each decorated with warm rich colours which instantly relaxes. All have a shower and most have a toilet which makes last minute needs much easier to accomodate. There is so much on offer here that the spa menu runs to 16 pages – from the norm to the inventive, including massages especially for golfers, reflexology and vegan packages – all bolstered by ESPA and YTSARA products.
The customer service is always on point and the devil is in the detail with things such as the simple act of offering an ankle bolster (to relieve pressure whilst being massaged) get a big Muddy thumbs up.
If you want to extend your pamper day, download a free day pass to their leisure facilities here. Or why not spoil yourself and check out their dinner, bed and breakfast packages from £99 per person.
