Fashion, song and even a bit of Irish river dancing - the perfect Muddy night out!
I’m very much looking forward to taking my eldest daughter to see what promises to be a fabulously fun production. I’m rarely disappointed when it comes to a chick flick and I’m sure the Threshold Theatre Company will have us in stitches as pink-clad Heroine Elle Woods charms her way into Harvard in the pursuit of love.
Movie Turn stage productions gave me the perfect opportunity to indulge in films I haven’t seen in years and I was shocked to see Legally Blonde is now 18 years old? The gorgeous Reece Witherspoon played the ditzy blonde so well that she got a Bafta Nomination and I can’t wait to see how lead actress Rebecca Jillings ‘makes it her own’. I was also very excited to hear that the supporting canine roles – Elle’s Chihuahua Bruiser and Paulette’s pooch Rufus are local theatrical hounds (new Muddy Awards category maybe – has a nice ring to it) and have apparently been stealing the show.
If you haven’t seen the film, firstly – why not??? Secondly, a quick synopsis – sorority president (princess) Elle Woods has her life turned upside-down when her boyfriend dumps her so he can start getting serious about his life and attend Harvard Law. Determined to get him back, Elle uses her charm to follow him. At school, she struggles with peers, professors, and Warner Huntington III. With the help of Paulette, Emmett and Bruiser the dog, Elle quickly realises her potential and sets out to prove herself to the world.
As a mother of three girls, I’m always looking for ways to creatively share ‘girl power’ messages. Legally Blonde combines musical comedy, fashion and let’s face it a formulaic Hollywood storyline to playfully tackles issues surrounding stereotypes and sexism. I’m hoping my daughter will appreciate the key message about always staying true to yourself – God knows 18 years on and I’m still trying!
Legally Blonde is on at the Norwich Playhouse from Tuesday 28th May – Saturday 1st June. If you’d like to be in with a chance of winning a pair of tickets, visit our Facebook page.
